Specialized S Works Transition - my LBS has a Medium

My LBS has a medium in stock if anyone is interested. I went by my shop last night to see if my “small” S-Works Transition, which I ordered about 3 weeks ago had come in yet, and while it had not arrived, they did get a medium in stock. I don’t think it was ordered for any particular person - just for stock I guess.

Anyway, I thought someone on Slowtwitch may be interested in it. The shop is Marty’s Reliable Cycle in Morristown, NJ.
Contact them if you are interested. The website is www.martysreliable.com

I did not put this post in the “classifieds” since I do not work for the shop or have any financial ties to the shop should someone buy this bike. It is just any FYI since I know it is a hard bike to come by.

Just a heads up, I placed the initial order for my Transition (pro) last year in August. I just got it two weeks ago…

I am still waiting on my Transition Pro. I heard that they are shipping by air, 60 bikes into the entire North America market. Have you gotten any updates from your LBS? My LBS is supposed to get one bike but they don’t know if it will be the model/size I ordered.

Did you put money down on it? From what I have been told, they are filling orders that are already pre-sold first. Like I said I had mine ordered last year August and I just got it two weeks ago (frame and fork only)

This bike was ordered by my LBS in May (that’s right, May). It is the whole Pro, not just frameset. I have money down on it and would pay the full amount if I thought the bike would come in quicker. As it is, the LBS not having the money isn’t the hold-up. Oh the cost of material desires…

Here is the latest delivery news from Specialized:

Dear Alliance Dealer, 2/28/08

I hope all is well your way.

I wanted to take the time to deeply apologize for the lack of supply thus far with our Transition (carbon) family and the Tarmac SL2. We clearly understand we’ve fallen down on our promise to you with these models and are doing everything possible to get this product delivered to you. In regards to the Transition I’m not going to give you excuses – we made a series of errors that created the perfect storm to delay throughput. At this time we have solved the production throughput and are running at full capacity and continue to build momentum as we move towards spring. We are continuing to air freight these models to deliver them to your floor without any additional delay.

Transition (carbon) update:
At this time we have received 12% of our annual quantity. We expect our delivery to improve dramatically commencing in March.

Ø March we expect to receive 20% of our entire back orders
Ø April we expect to receive 30% of our entire back orders
Ø May we expect to receive the balance of our entire back orders
We have decided to continue the product line of the Transition S-Works, Expert, and Comp models with no graphic change and very minor running changes to specification for 2009. These models will continue to run at full throughput during the model year changeover to meet you and your customer needs. Be confident while continuing to write orders for the S-Works, Expert and Comp Transitions, these will be 09 models. The 2009 Pro model will receive new specification and will be delivered later this year.

Tarmac SL2 update:
The picture on SL2, while tight, is far better than the Transition. We have delivered/filled 85% of the pre-season orders for complete bikes and 75-80% of the framesets and modules. As the demand for these continues to be very strong, we’ve been able to secure additional supply. Expect additional bike and framesets to be available in March and April in limited quantities. The modules will be available at the same time in very good quantities; so please focus and order the modules.

We will allocate these bicycles and frames in the following priority:

  1. Sales order date
  2. Concept stores
  3. Sell thru providers

Please take note that the rest of our bike and equipment line has best ever fill rates for this time of year. When excluding pre-book only bikes our fill rates for bikes are near 90%. On equipment, our core items are over 96% and the rest of the equipment line is over 90%. The BPSA data shows there is much less inventory at wholesale versus last year. With an early spring our inventory will move through at a rapid pace. Please take the time to evaluate your inventory – do you have enough inventory to get you through the next 90 days?

Thanks for your continued support and patience, the entire team at Specialized greatly appreciates your business, if there is any way I can be of help, please call.

Best regards,

John Michael Thompson
USA National Sales Manager

Thanks Trimichael. Information seemed to be hard to obtain. I am sure that this snafu has caused some heartburn in Specialized. Do you know what the comment means interms of the Pro being changed in 2009, but other models staying the same?

The 2009 changing later this year seems funny since the 2008 have barely made it out.

A teammate ordered one (the “module” or frame/fork/brakes and Specialized crankset) just a couple of weeks ago (couldn’t find one in Houston, had to mail order). Came in last week. We put it together and set his position Monday. Awesome looking bike. The rear brake was a bit of a pain. He put the Oval A921 on the thing. His bars cost more than the Fuji Track Pro he also just bought.
