Has anyone noticed that German elections yesterday dealt Schroeder’s government a crushing defeat which is going to lead to early elections? The Social Democrats had another in a string of local election losses, this time in a region they have governed for nearly 40 years.
Not a word on CNN, NY Times, WA Post. No mention on Fox News that I know of anyway. I never saw a mention of the tie no confidence vote that the Canadian government bribed their way into to prevent that government from collapsing a few days ago either.
How can we have 24/7 news without any news? How can I have 200 channels and never have anything to watch on TV?
Yeah, new elections!!! Way back in 2002 I predicted that these numbskulls would not make it another full 4 years. Anyway, it remains to be seen if new elections are really gonna happen. It’s not that easy to get the vote through, quite complicated from a constitutional standpoint. And of course anybody who believes that everything will be better because we might have a change in parties is a fool. What we need is tough reforms that will hurt for the first few years, but will help in the long run. Problem is politicians don’t get elected promising cutbacks. It’s all screwed pretty screwed up but I’m hopeful!
I hear ya. I live 1 hour away from the canadian border and I didn’t hear about the no confidence vote until after it happened.
I always thought the problem was that we do have 24/7 news channels.
In the drive to fill up all that air time and draw high ratings the news channels have become so much more sensationalistic. So much so that the news editors don’t seem to have an eye anymore for significant news if there isn’t some sort of sensationalistic angle.
