Speaking of ads, anyone see the new VW ad

A cyclist is riding on a windy road. It gets dark and his handlebar mounted lights die on him. A car comes up behind him, sees him late, and honks as it swerves around him. The frustrated cyclist stops riding due to his inability to see ahead of him. Then our hero arrives. The VW comes up behind the cyclist and due to its headlights that turn, sees the cyclist and stops. At which point it waits for the cyclist and then cruises right behind him to provide light for the rider via his headlamps that turn. This works so well it allows the cyclist to avoid rocks and junk in the road. They get to the end of the road and the cyclist and the driver exchange a knowing look.

Yeah…I always ride my bike down dark canyon roads in the middle of the night…

My first take on that ad was “What a dick, I can’t believe the driver is riding that guy’s ass all the way through that tough section. If he goes down, that cyclist is dead”

My first thought was that Cadillac had this feature nearly 10 years ago. And also, that its another example of careless cyclist putting himself in dangerous conditions.

But, its a pretty cool commercial. I wish all drivers had that general concern for non-car users of our roads.

Sheesh. No good deed is to go unpunished, huh?

Mrs. Vitus loves that commercial. Gets warm, fuzzy feelings seeing a depiction of goodwill between motorists and cyclists.

Directional headlights were a notable feature of the 1948 Tucker, but the technology went back to the 1937 Tatra T77A. The first real production car with steerable headlights was the 1967 Citroën DS.

My 1986 Chevy Blazer put the washer fluid out along the blades instead of shooting it from the hood and spraying the roof and the guy behind you. BMW now advertises that as one of the special features on their $80,000+ 745i.

Just sayin’ I wasn’t paying real close attention to the ad (can’t imagine I’m alone there) and it wasn’t entirely clear to me what was going on
