Spare tubular

I never carry a spare at Olys, but this weekend is my first 1/2 with tubbies. I have it alll wrapped up with the CO2 charger and cartridge inside, but where does it go now? Bottle holders are full… jam it under the seat between the rails? Do I even need to have one for a 1/2?

You don’t “need” one, but if you blow you’ll “need” one then. Race safe, with backup plans.

I don’t know about how many hours you train, what you paid for your race or how far you are going to travel, but to have all of that go down the drain because you are not carrying a spare tubbie seems a little nonsensical to me. Double it over twice and use electrical tape to take it to you seat post, or if you have a hydration system in the back it should fit between the bottle holders.

I don’t like my spare taped or strapped to my post or rails.

I have a “race” saddle bag that holds my spare tubie, one co2, and an inflator. I fold my spare into 6 sections, 2 sides of 3 in a spiral out/spiral in pattern… Then I strap it into a small, oblong ball shape, kind of like a mini football. Then shove it in my bag and I’m steath-tubie guy. The best part of this is that you get to laugh at everyone else’s spares that litter the bike course when they fall off.
