In Memory of Curt Sutliff
Last Sunday at the May 4 Fiesta Island Time Trial Curt Sutliff, an avid cyclist and Santiago Time Trial event organizer, passed out while warming up on his stationary trainer in the Fiesta Island parking lot. Riders near by and event volunteers rushed to his aid. Sadly, no one, including the quick to respond EMT’s, were able to revive Curt. The cause of his death is currently unknown.
San Diego Bicycle Club and the all of the competitors the morning of the event are shocked and saddened by this tragic and untimely loss of such an active member of the cycling community. Curt was just 51 years old. Our heart goes out to Curt’s family and friends during this very difficult time. In honor of Curt Sutliff, bib number 66 will be retired from the Fiesta Island Time Trial Series. He will be remembered appropriately at each future event at Fiesta Island.
A memorial service is scheduled for this Friday, May 9 at 11:30.

Note from Gary:
I did not know Curt very well personally, we only spoke a few times about the Santiago Time trial series. Curt was very passionate about cycling and kept the Santiago Time Trial Series http://timetrial.org/santiagocanyon.htm going in 2003 when the county threatened not giving a permit. Curt’s efforts will not go unnoticed, we all appreciatate everything he has done for our community and the sacrafices he has made and his hard work as an event organizer.
Curt’s race bib number that he wore as he was warming up for the Fiesta Island time trial is number 66.
This race bib number has now been retired from the Fiesta Island Time Trial series. www.fiestaisland.com
I am going to place #66 decals on my race bike to remember Curt.
His family are in my prayers.
