South Pacific Islands honeymoon recomendations

We are getting married in England in August and are thinking of spending the first 3-4 days of our honeymoon on a south pacific island soaking up rays, getting sand in our toes and drinking drinks with umbrellas in them, before we head to New Zealand for 9 days.

Any thoughts or suggestions as to which islands to stay. We are thinking of Cook Islands and Fiji. Not looking to do much other than maybe some snorkeling as it is our honeymoon. We a re looking for a place that is absolutely stress free. Definitely want a place with a no kids under 18 policy.

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Fiji would be good, I spent a month there off and on in 80s -02 . The Suva end, south eastern side Has nice hotels, but the down town is like the slums of Calcutta, you can see a movies – get a Mac burger – pizza hut -sizzler. Lots of pick pockets - hard sell hand craft kids, walk in groups.

The Nadi side was developing more and with better hotels, very serene. The grass grows right to the waters edge , 2 ft drop and shallow for a hundred feet out, in clean sand ,Glassy water out to a few miles. The maids would sit in the shaded entry ways and sing soft Island music in groups. Its been set up for Australian tourists. I always felt happy and safe there. Small green parrots would land on your chair at breakfast and chirp a few times before they flew.

They had a junk tourist trinket / carvings shop there, all the taxi drivers would get a few bucks if they dropped a car load off and you just walked through the shop., Funny

Pick your weather, add surfing-diving – fishing to round out you vacation. The best thing about Fiji is once you get there, food and rooms are all prices, back then 02, turtle island $350 a day, I met a guy who spent 250 for a bed & shower, I said So, he said $2.50 in a big youth hall 40 beds, nice if your an earthy type. You can find cheap rooms next to a $300 hyatt . Eat there and sleep cheap next door.

The word FIJI , means the sex Islands .......

Think about Mauritius. Lovely place, more diverse culture than many islands in the neighborhood, plus a pretty vibrant tri scene.

I stopped on Cook Islands when I traveled back from NZ to Europe. It is very nice there to relax maybe you can do some short trips e.g. Rarotonga …

Thanks for the advice. Will definitely check out all the information.

This won’t fit with your plans, but I have been looking at a Polynesian cruise on a freighter called the “Arunai.” It leaves Tahiti, goes to about 7-8 islands in the chain, and ends up back in Tahiti after 10 days. It has first class cabins and dining. You can also opt for a lower class of cabin.

Have done the ritzy cruise ship routine–I think this would be a lot more relaxing.
