South Bay (SF Area) Cervelo dealer?

Somebody that posts on here is a Cervelo dealer in the South Bay. What shop/who is that? I did a search and couldn’t find it.

Thanks!

Darrell Eng is the owner
.

That’s the guy!

Thanks, Dave.

The shop is located in Palo Alto, let me know if you need/want something. Normal hours are Tues-Sat 10-6, Thurs 10-7 and Sun 1-5. Store phone is 650.804.6680

Can also try Cupertino Bike Shop in Cupertino. 408-255-2217.

Go with Montano Velo in Oakland! They are the best bike shop I have ever been too (and ive been to a lot) I like them because they are different than any other bike shop. Ive been in shops where they dont ask you if you need help, or a lot of times I know more info on the bikes than they do and sometimes what they tell me isnt true… BUT at montano velo they know a lot about bikes. They have great service both mechanically and floor service (info on bikes ect…) The bikes they carry are: Cervelo, Time, Giant, Pegorretti, Burly, lots of accessories and lots of track stuff.

Also the shop has a lot of stuff you wouldnt see in other bike shops. like vintage stuff and other odds and ends that you wouldnt see in a bike shop but of course is bike related. Great place to pick up Christmas gifts.

How is that place now that it is no longer Transition Sports or part of TS? I bought my bike there back when it was TS but thought it was only road bikes now. I will need to stop by soon to see for myself.

I think its been about 2 or 3 years since TS closed and Jason Montano bought it. Right now it is probably almost at the peak any bike shop can be at. They are great. They do have Tri/TT cervelos in stock that they have on the floor. I think they have the best location for a bike shop I have ever been to. On piedmont ave. with all the other shops, its a great atmosphere.

Are you a service shop for Polar? My s720i battery is dying and I heard they can be tricky to replace.

I don’t know about the guys in Oakland, but I can tell you that Darrell really knows his stuff and is great to work with. Even for an extra drive, I would go see him.

Besides, if you come over to PA, you can look me up and go for a friendly ride up Page Mill or Old La Honda.

Not sure if they are a service shop, but they do carry polar, and they might be able to fix it.

Not sure if you’re the person who called this morning or not but I would recommend going through Polar. Having the battery replaced by another company voids the warranty and significantly increases the odds that the watch will no longer be water proof. Turn around time is usually pretty quick is you send it down to the LA facility, maybe 5-7 business days.

If you don’t go through Polar ask around since some shops have experience with setting the seals in correctly so that your watch will be fairly water tight. A jeweler would be better than a typical watch repair facility. I know some people who have successfully had their batteries replaced without compromising the ability to submerge them but I can’t remember who/where the service was done.

Jens, I won’t be in Palo Alto any time soon, but I will be there for work first week of next May and I will have my bike with me on account of already having done Wildflower, and I would LOVE to take you up from some “before work” or “after work” rides…head up Old Lahonda…putter around Skyline at the top and and bomb down Page Mill…I love the Page Mill descent…one of my favourite descents in the world outside of Ventoux and Col de Croix de Fer North Side :-)…just be easy on me for the climb (I’ll have my 34x25)…but I should be OK for the descent of Page Mill as long as no SUV’s pull out…darn just remembered, I will only have race wheels…I might need to borrow a front wheel with Al braking surface (rear is a HED3)…no way I am coming down Page Mill on a carbon rim heating up my rim and doing a Beloki !

no way I am coming down Page Mill on a carbon rim heating up my rim and doing a Beloki

unrelated to you or to the initial topic of this thread, but having been up and down that road countless times myself, this is one of the most important reasons tubulars are unacceptable (to me).

“uh, this is my tri/road race/training wheel, unless i happen to ride a course with a major downhill, then it is far too dangerous to use it.”

!!!

what is a bike wheel for but to ride up and down hills?

Don’t use the brakes…problem solved

I have extra wheels at my house you can borrow when you’re out here in May, just let me know. I might be able to join you and Jens for some riding. I don’t know exactly where Jens lives but I think he’s just a few minutes from my house.

Hwy 84 is a good descent from skyline too since they repaved the entire road a few years ago.

Haim, while I’d say I have pretty good descending skills compared to the above average roadie (usually I don’t claim to better than anyone at anything, but this is one area where I can hold my own), Page Mill is one descent where you need to tap the brakes lightly into many turns before pointing your belly botton at the point down the road where you want your bike to go to…and regardless of how well you handle a bike taking a 78 degree angle tri bike down switchbacks just is not the optimal option. I’ve even reached the top of long climbs in Europe on my Kestrel road bike, and stopped at the top and slammed my seat all the way back to have max weight over the back wheel, especially going through a switchback…bike tracks like a charm

Darrell, I’ll certainly take you up on that offer. I love those roads up behind Palo Alto!

“Page Mill is one descent where you need to tap the brakes lightly into many turns”

Of course I was joking about the brakes. Tapping the brakes lightly into a turn is not going to soften the glue on your tubular.

Page Mill Road is in my backyard, and my 78 degree P3 (with tubulars) and I have spent a lot of time going up and down it over the years. In my experience there, if you are descending hard enough to have even the most remote concern about overheating the glue and rolling a tubular, something else is going to bite you first.

I’ll be around. Definitely look me up. I’ve got all kinds of wheels lying around. BTW, I recently came down on my 404s after the local “low key hillclimb” TT up it. I had the ZG brakes with the wrong pads – poorly adjusted too. I’m a very timid descender. It was not pretty.

At the top, I ran into the guy who makes these brakes:

who said “I hope someone is going to give you a ride down…” Neat guy and neat product, BTW.
