Something odd is going on with UFO research

The admission that there are things flying in the sky that we can’t identify is not new. What is new is the admission that there is “aircraft” flying in the sky which is not from this planet;

"The former head of a secret government program to investigate UFO sightings told several media outlets that extraterrestrial life may exist. Simultaneously, the public benefit corporation he is affiliated with has raised more than $2.2 million to research “exotic technologies” affiliated with “unidentified aerial phenomena.”

“My personal belief is that there is very compelling evidence that we may not be alone,” said Luis Elizondo, the person who formerly managed the Pentagon Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program, in an interview with CNN.
Elizondo said the program had found “a lot” of strange aircraft while it was in existence. “These aircraft — we’ll call them aircraft — are displaying characteristics that are not currently within the U.S. inventory nor in any foreign inventory that we are aware of,” he said. On my bucket list is the admission that intelligent alien life exists. It wouldn’t scare me, I am aware of the risks contact could bring. I think the upside could be tremendous. I also think the world is ready for the admission that intelligent life exists outside of this planet cause we know there isn’t any here…

But contact with a slightly more technologically advanced culture worked out soooo well for the North American natives…

But contact with a slightly more technologically advanced culture worked out soooo well for the North American natives…

And new diseases for the massive cultures that disappeared in the Amazon. Seen that Joe Rogan episode about the scans of the Amazon? Like millions and millions of people wiped out and the jungle grew over it in the time between our initial contacts and disease spread and our return with lots more people. I’m not entirely buying it, but was a fascinating episode.

There are a few things that, by now, we would have hard evidence of if they were true:

When I hear most of these stories, I think back to the 1960s. The US was developing the A-12 (the first of the blackbird family) and they needed to what it would take for it to be undetectable by the USSR. Using very fancy electronic techniques they were able spoof the USSR radars very precisely while they listened in to the radios of their interceptor aircraft/ground control. So they were able try all sorts of radar return strengths (mimicking the radar cross section of an aircraft), speeds, and altitudes and see if the USSR air defense system would respond. So they were able to determine if there was a combination radar cross section, altitude, or speed that the USSR radars either couldn’t detect or would filter out.

Do you think that right now that the US is the country that has the capability to spoof sensors? Do you think other countries don’t understand the value of this information? Is it a coincidence that this happens to the Navy that is operating in the ocean where other countries can have subs or ships with equipment and not in Nevada where it would be much more difficult to do? Do you think that the US itself would not be interested to see how our sensors and our pilots react to these?

My favorite story about them testing the USSR air defense system was one day a fighter pilot actually said on the radio “I have visual contact, permission to fire?” Everyone on the boat was shocked, because there was nothing there, just spoofed radar data, he couldn’t see anything. Then the USSR controlled got on the radio and gave the pilot permission to fire. The pilot then announces he is firing, so without saying a word one of the Americans turned off the radar spoofing. The USSR ground control then congratulated the pilot on shooting down the unknown aircraft. I do wonder if that pilot was lying when he said he could see the target or if he actually thought he could see something. Do our pilots also see something that is not there because their sensors are telling them something is there?

I’m not sure what hard evidence you would expect to see with an alien vehicle unless one crashed… and if that happened to you think the government would let us know?

Imagine civilizations separated by a thousand years, can we really imagine what life would be like for an alien lifeform? Probably not.

As a former EWO, that’s not how “spoofing” works. And, it’s not just radar data; there is HUD film from the Navy jets.

If one crashed on land it’s far more likely it would be found by a private citizen and picked up by the media than be able to be covered up by the US government.

And if one or two swung by into our atmosphere, it’s more likely there would be multiple incidents and more credible evidence.

So yes, I want hard evidence of a vehicle and an accompanying alien life form, dead or alive.

Same with BigFoot. Show me the specimen. And as for God, I want him to appear as a giant, inflatable Donald Trump in nappies, flying over London.

Aliens?

I recall a quote from Carl Sagan: “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence”. I’ll stick with that as my position.
I will just add that if there are aliens then they’ve got a lot of explaining to do.

Look up project palladium. I think you will find the article from the National Security Archives interesting.

Do a search on Lu Elizondo. there is real question whether he had anything to do with that government project at all.

Sounds like this might be a well funded attempt at some meaningful cable TV ratings.

Maybe it’s just humans that have figured out how to travel back in time!

And there just fucking with our minds.

We don’t want to meet aliens. The amount of power they would have to be able to harness to get here would be immense.

It would go worse than ants vs. a little kid with a magnifying glass.

I agree that any aliens that were able to get here across the vastness of space are very far advanced beyond where we are or will be for a long time.

My theory, and I think it’s pretty sound, is that any civilization capable of getting here wouldn’t give a shit about us or our planet’s resources. The stuff that we consider valuable natural resources are spread throughout the universe. We’re nothing special.

I agree with this it wouldn’t be a resource issue. If they can get here they are using something well beyond what our planet has as resources and most likely a different source of energy we haven’t figured out yet.

I also find it unlikely if they made it here they would be doing it to destroy us. It’d be like us destroying Uganda. We could wipe them off the planet in 13.2 seconds but what is the point and that would take significantly less effort from us than getting here from any other planet.

I feel Star Trek probably has it closest. They could be watching from space or even potentially somewhere here but aren’t going to interfere until we get to a certain level of intelligence.

We’re already fairly close to being able to cloak, adaptive camouflage at least. Even a civilization that’s 1000 years further along probably can do this with ease. So us not being able to have any clue they are here would be very plausible.

I could not have said it better. I am sure there are worlds that are thousands of years ahead of us and many that are primordial. I do find it very interesting that we equate what happened to the native Americans et al with what the outcome would be of our first meeting with extraterrestrials. If we came across a previously unknown culture today on planet Earth there would be all kinds of safeguards to protect them. We can learn and we can do better.

Or it could be awesome as they give us cold fusion, etc, while allowing us to retain our sovereignty.

Edit: Or maybe letting us pretend we have our sovereignty while preventing us from achieving interstellar colonization, as there’s ample evidence we really don’t do well when presented with constrained resources, and are hardwired for tribal behavior.

Interesting, I may have to stand corrected. However, something still didn’t seem quite right with that report, as the capability to spoof a radar that convincingly is tough to do, even today. And, it made me wonder…if we had stuff like that in 1962, then how did we lose so many airplanes over North Vietnam?

The best thing for us would be if they think we are so trivial as to not merit attention. Or at least find us amusing to laugh at.

But like was mentioned, any resource anything could want is abundant on any number of planets. No need to come here except to point and laugh.

That’s the whole premise of the Hitchhiker’s Guide, which is what makes it so great.
