“Democratic Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro on Monday tweeted the names and employers of 44 San Antonio residents who donated the federal maximum to President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign.
Castro, whose district includes much of San Antonio, claimed the donors “are fueling a campaign of hate that labels Hispanic immigrants as ‘invaders.'†Castro is the twin brother of Democratic presidential candidate Julian Castro and chairs his presidential campaign.”
Weaponizing donor lists only works if they are donating to a shameful cause or person. Conversely, it might serve to encourage people to frequent these businesses for those on the MAGA train.
Is this the right way for a Presidential candidate to behave? Three years ago I would have said no. But in the last 4 years years it is clear there is no rule book and we have a free for all in our politics.
I don’t see the rationale. Either something bad happens for which he will be blamed or nothing happens making it pointless.
And I can’t think of anything ‘good’ happening. Are rich Republicans not going to donate to Trump? Are enough people going to remember this list and boycott them to make a difference? Are you somehow not going to come across as a total dick when you do this?
Much like hate filled rhetoric… nothing good can come from this move.
Agreed. This serves only to exacerbate the nasty ‘us vs them’ attitude in politics.
