I ride a Trek 2100 with PD C Stryks clipped onto my drops. This is my first season.
I cannot stop looking for a new bike. I think that if I could just get a tri frame (even the $250 Leader) I could swap componants, but then I need a new Aero fork, and Aero bar set up. Who ever heard of a Tri bike with a triple? and do they make a triple bar end shifter anyway? Gotta get a cool seat, but I guess the brakes will work… My wheels suck too. How can I get a $1,400 wheel set for $150?
It’s not that I’m all that slow on the bike. I don’t even know if a forward geometry frame will help… But I need one.
I think that I have damaged myself psycologically into making myself a poor runner… I suck at running… it must be the bike…
The only good thing is that I feel good passing expensive bikes, and don’t feel like a loser being passed on an expensive bike…
Okay, “Stop the insanity.” You just wanted someone to tell you that, right?
Actually, spend your first couple of years working on things that will provide better payoff in terms of cost-effectiveness. Improve your swimming and running or work on your transitions.
And yes, you can use bar-end shifters with a triple. The left shifter works the front derailluer and it is nothing more than an old-fashioned friction lever type of affair. It will work on a double or a triple. I have seen triple chain rings in many triathlons. Look for some decent used wheels on EBay.
Go ahead, spend the money. Only after you have all the fancy shit will you fully appreciate that it’s the engine that matters.
Odd for someone with a Fight Club quote as their signature to be wrapped up in the material aspect of the sport. “You are not your bank account. You are not the car you drive. You are not your fucking tri bike…”
