Some things don't change

OK so who was it that did/said this over 25 years ago…

from wikipedia

…That same year, during the Giro d’Italia, he was confronted with accusations of drug use. Because of this, he was forced to leave the contest. He cried in front of the press and to this day keeps repeating people cheated with the doping test. He argued that there were no counter-experts nor counter-analysis available and that some foreign supporters hated him. Further, he stated that the stage during which he was allegedly using drugs was an easy one for everybody, so there was no need to use any drugs…

Seems like everyone says the same thing over time. This was at least a decade before Lemond who in another thread was quoted as being the clean guy on the tour. Lemond was 10 years before Riis who admitted doping this spring and said at the time it was part of the culture but now he wouldn’t have it.

Eddie Merckx. Not sure what your point is. Cycling has a long, rich, and institutionalized history of doping since its first days. They’ve all doped. To think otherwise would be naive.

My point is not that I think Merckx did or didn’t do what he was accused of, but that the explanations haven’t changed much in almost 30 years.

thought of this based on the other thread centered around Lemonds recent comments about “everyone” is doping now…

Oh, okay. That’s fair. Misunderstood your previous post.
