Some of you guys want to talk about hookless for tri/TT, so here's your thread

How many race wheelsets do you think us normal people have? You are essentially advocating for people to have a 28/30mm tire w/ a wide wheel (hooked or hookless) and a 25mm tire w/ a narrower wheel.

i guess you’re stll having trouble with my writing style  i think you’ll have 1 racing wheelset. that’s why i’m asking you what it is you’re buying now: a wheelset for your race today, on the bike you own today that’s optimized for narrower tires? or a wheelset that’s going to work for a bike optimized for wider tires?

a number of the new bikes - look at the wide-stance fork blades and chain stays on the current BMC tri bike - are optimized for wider tires. here’s what cervelo says about it’s current P5: “The new P5 frame is about a watt faster aerodynamically than the previous model, and has clearance for 34mm tires. That clearance means plenty of room for Reserve’s new 77/88 wheelset, and Vittoria’s 29mm tire. which saves about 4 watts over the previous Reserve/Vittoria pair for a total system savings of about 5 watts.”

so, do you want a wheelset for a 2018 tri bike you own now and that you don’t intend to replace for another 5 years? or do you intend to buy a P5 next year and you want a wheelset that’ll work fine on your current bike (assuming there’s enough tire clearance) and that will also be optimized for the bike you’re going to buy?
