Some of you crybabies need to grow up

i now notice that yet another shop (this one in texas) is getting punished by anonymous authors. the actual reasons such punishment are:

  1. this customer asked for a discount and such request wasn’t granted, and he’s now taking his public revenge;
  2. he felt intimidated because he went into a PRO shop and didn’t feel like a pro, and transfered his feelings of inadequacy onto the shop owner;
  3. he didn’t get swarmed by salesmen upon entering the shop, car dealership style, was too intimidated to ASK for help, and took this as a sign the retailer somehow sensed his poorness or neophyte status and purposely decided to ignore him;
  4. the owner was in a legitimately shitty mood that day, and that is something you just do not allow, and you’re going to punish him for it.

most shop owners don’t know me by face. i walk into shops all over the country. if i need help, i ask for it. almost everybody is almost always courteous. they do their best. they may be informed or less informed. but almost no tri or bike shop owner in this country suffers from a bad enough attitude to warrant public internet humiliation.

you read slowtwitch to get faster, fitter, better-equipped? here’s a tip for you. about this LBS thing. just get over it. shop there if you want. don’t if you don’t. don’t take it so personally, and in all cases try to get along with the bike shops local to you and NOT make an enemy of yourself, because you never know when you’re going to need them. you’ll be a happier triathlete for it.

Well said.

Amen.

100% agree

This constant changing of screennames to hide true identities is bullshit too. If you got something to say don’t hide behind some made up name, then go back to your old screename for regular posting.

thank god someone has finally spoken the truth that i have been waiting for

when i walk into a shop, of any type for that matter, i would rather be left alone till i need help at which point i will go and seek it out from the employees, i dont need 2 b harrased
.

Well said, Dan.

On the one hand, I agree with Erik that it would be nice if everyone posted their real names and would be man enough to stand by their posts (good or bad). On the other hand, this would eliminate 95% of posts as most people are shy to stick out their neck in the public domain, so we would lose lots of the positive contributions on this forum.

Then again, the internet is the only medium in society where you can say anything about anyone at anytime based on questionable data with no real penalty. There is something fundamentally wrong with this degeneration in civilized society.

Dan,

Thank You! I have had alot of free time to spend in my Local LBS (Landis) lately and I have noticed how poorly some poeple treat the employees there. This is MY bike shop, as in I go no where else… they treat me great and do excelent work and all the employees have become good friends of mine. Just a little tip… most bike shops go out of their way to take care of most customers regardless of how much money they are going to spend (if any), many will go the extra mile for a customer who is nice to the employees. Now there are exceptions, I have been to those shops who have treated me like crap, looked down at my overweight traithlete body and decided I wasn’t worth their time… oh well, they just didn’t get my business.

Mischa and her crew at Landis on Southern (Tempe, AZ) will continue to get all of my business!

Alan

Slowman its all in your hands!!! You own this site!!make everyone register,and use real names, do you think what people are doing is ever going to change? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results =insanity If you really want to protect those in the business(like you say you do) change the forum so people can not use it against those businesses you so want to protect

“the internet is the only medium in society where you can say anything about anyone at anytime based on questionable data with no real penalty.”

this assumes you (the plural you) think i don’t know who you are when you presume anonymity. following a few egregious examples of bad behavior those folks have found out they weren’t as anonymous as they thought.

but in general i err on the side of letting people have their ways on this forum and will continue to do so.

I don’t real names need to be mandated. I just think it sucks that some names only show up during specific discussions/topics. It is clear that these people are changing the screen name just to voice a certain opinion on a specific issue.

If people don’t want their real name out there I’m cool with that, and I understand. Just don’t switch to some other screen name to bash a specific product/person.

Okay, my real name is Fred Farkleson. No, wait, it’s Pedro Feliz. Ummm…maybe it’s Napolean Dynamite. Yeah, that’s it. Napolean.

There’s no possible way (short of charging people and making them use a credit card, and even then there are ways around that) to “make everyone register and use their real names”. Me, I don’t have a clever screen name and never have on any forum I’ve been on. But that’s me…everyone is different, and I have no problem having Erik Clark post or mojomojomasterwhatever post. To each his own.

Now, constantly changing screen names for the purpose of flaming something/someone, well…consider the source I suppose. It’s usually pretty obvious that there is an offending party, we just don’t always know who it might be. And in the grand scheme of things it’s not a big deal to me. Opposing and inflammatory viewpoints just keep things interesting. If it is directed towards harming someone or their business, there’s plenty of opportunity for the “truth” to come out.

But any form of censorship is not really the way to go it appears your post might be leaning towards.

I’m sure Dan has access to IP #s of the anon posters and can trace them back to the original names.

Thanks Dan.

Cencership? me no thats not what i am saying,but slowman gets upset when people use his forum to talk bad about the very people he tries to protect,just giving him ideas on how to stop it. Sure slowman can find out who is posting,but if everyone knew who was posting i bet a lot of crap would dissapear. I have nothing to hide so i use my name

Those guys at Landis were great:

  1. GF’s computer wouldn’t work the day before bike check in. They got it working. They didn’t know what they did, but they got it working.

  2. Three hours before bike check in cut off, the adjustment screw in my rear drop-outs, right side, stripped when I “got on it” at a light. Actually, it was the frame that received the screw. The put a nut on it so it couldn’t go all the way in, adjusted it, and I made the check-in.

  3. They went over both bikes, every nut and bolt, and adjusted the DR’s even though IOS had just done it.

  4. As mentioned elsewhere, GF’s lenses came out of her sunglasses part way through the bike. A guy from Landis on the wagon* saw her with one lens and gave her his prescription sunglasses to finish the windy sand-blowing ride. (Her eye was already racked, but at least it didn’t get worse).

They didn’t take money for 1, 2, 3, or 4.

But we are good tippers.

*At least he didn’t appear drunk.

Dan is the great and powerful wizard of oz!

Are you saying the world doesn’t revolve around ME, Dan? How dare you. Its my world and I want it supersized, underpriced, and most of all…EASY. Give me that damn EASY button on that commercial. And don’t ever, Ever, EVER tell me NO. It simply doesn’t compute!

;->

Monk, The guy who gave your GF the glasses was Dick Landis… the owner.

This is kind of a side note, but slowman I think you have become grumpy since you started your diet. Please be happy.
