Some driver in a big pickup truck last night

I was on the way towards home at the end of my ride last night when I heard the familiar sound of an engine and tires approaching from behind. I was riding on the wide shoulder of the road, but as the sound approached it kept getting closer without passing me. At this point I am thinking in my head “what on earth is this guys DOING!”

I looked back and see a full-size chevy pickup off my shoulder.

Just as I turn the truck accelerates to pass, but instead of buzzing me, or laying on the horn, the driver rolls down the window and gently pulls alongside.

I hear out of the window “Nice pace, man! 25 mile-an-hour!” as he gives me a grin and (what seemed like a genuine) thumbs up.

Turns out, he pulled just behind me and paced me to see what his speedometer was reading and complimented me on my riding before he safely, gently and at an acceptable distance drove away.

This renewed my faith that not everyone is a total jerk. It made the last 20 minutes of my ride pretty enjoyable.

Very nice to read.

Did he offer you his tail as a draft after? Nothing like a big pick-up truck draft.

I imagine the fear of an oversized truck driving behind you is good for an extra 1-2 mph. I know it would be for me!
