Yea, I know there are hundreds of “what’s better soloist or PC3 for X race”. My question is to those who have both or have ridden both (not at the same time) in a triathlon, what left you feeling better for the run?
Kevin
I’ve ridden both, have a soloist carbon (tri bike is a Planet X Stealth Carbon Pro set up pretty aggressive). I run the same of both. If the SLC is “set up” like a tri bike, then you will run the same off both! I you leave it as a road bike, I still personally run the same (tried it), but need to run faster since now my bike split will be slower!
What dictates when you race the soloist?
What is a pc3?
Do you mean P3C? I ask because you wrote pc3 both in the title and in the actual post? Maybe there is a new bike called the pc3?
Also, if you meant the P3C, it isn’t the the type of bike that will let you run better. Largest factor will be how fit you are, how hard you pushed yourself on the bike (regardless of type), and position regardless of frame, the last thing that would seem to impact how you run off the bike is the actual bike frame.
Simon Lessing used the soloist in the past if I am not mistaken and he is a damn fast runner, Bjorn Andersson used the P3C and has had problems running off the bike, whereas others such as Rutger Beke have run well.
sorry, dislexia(sp).

also. simon lessing hasn’t spent the hours before running in a position that is similar to touching your toes, as does bjorn.
You’ll run just as well off either bike. What you should be asking yourself is what to you want a bike for? The Soloist is a dual purpose road/tri bike while the P3 is a dedicated tri bike.
Ask yourself some questions such as do you want to group ride, climb hills, road race or want an every day bike. Then get a Soloist. Do you want a bike just for training solo and doing triathlons. Then consider the P3.
Also some people aren’t comfortable in the steep position that a P3 should be rode in. You will put more strain on your neck and crotch.
BTW, I know two guys that had faster bike splits on a Soloist than they did on their P2K and P3.
I have a Soloist team. Just weighing the advantages of a more “tri” specific bike. If P3 doesn’t put you in a more favorable position then what is the advantage over the soloist?

Tri vs. road race ![]()
So, no matter the bike conditions (elevation gain). you would ride the Tri bike at a trathlon.

Yes, for the most part. I did use my SLC at Lake Placid last year as a “test” as well as the Triple T. Definitely run the same off both. Which “bike” is faster for ME I know now - remember, comfort = speed for long course racing.
