SOLD - Zipp 404 custom built rear clincher (zipp 505 with aluminum rim)

Up for sale is a rear wheel that I had custom made by Mike Garcia at Odds and Endos. The wheel is a Zipp 505 non-dimpled rim with 14 guage DT Swiss Sapim CXRay spokes. It’s 28 hole with alloy nipples on the non-drive side and brass nipples on the drive side. The hub is a SpeedCific Serenity hub that’s spec’d by Mike himself and, I believe, made by Formula. They are completely reserviceable and roll nicely. Weight is 925g without tape, which is very reasonable for such a strong wheel.

The wheel is in great shape except that under certain angles you can see the remnants of stickers that I had on the wheel. Obviously does not influence performance at all, but I do want to mention it. You can see some spots in the photos. I’ve attached a shot of the wheel with stickers so you can see what they used to look like. I’m currently using the front and don’t find it objectionable at all. I haven’t tried “goo-off” or the like but that might cure things. Of course, you could order new stickers and cover the spots too.

I’ve never had to true it or replace a spoke, but I will include a pair of replacement spokes and nipples that came with the wheel. I doubt you’ll ever need them.

Not sure what to ask for this wheel so I’ll start at $450 shipped and paypaled. I am open to offers though.

How old is the rim and about how many miles?

I had the wheel built for 2009 and only used it for two halves and a sprint or two. I did not use it all of 2010 because my wife and I had a baby and I didn’t ride outside. This last year I used it more because I couldn’t stand it sitting unused, but still not a lot by any standard. At best I get outside one day a week and that’s only if the weather is nice and I don’t have other family commitments. So figure at most 10-15 rides usually of 50 miles (and I didn’t always use this wheel). So 750 miles this year at most and at 250 previously? Maybe 1000 total? Probably less but either way not much.

And I’m 140 lbs, so I’m pretty light on my gear.

Just so you know I also have a matching front that I’m keeping. That’s how much I like these wheels. The only reason I am getting rid of the rear is because I bought a new rear with a Powertap. I’ll train and race with that instead.

I’d ship to Australia but how much would shipping be? Tried to run through a Fed Ex calculator on-line and it cost more than the wheel itself! Thoughts?

Really :frowning:

I have no idea how to get it here but happy to pay $500 in total if I can get it here ??

Let me get a better assessment of the size and weight of the box and we’ll see.

Thanks for getting back to me, I have been looking for a 28 spoke Zipp for a while now, not very common, let me think about it and see if the other guy commits.
