Softride TT beams

Calling all softride owners.

Softride TT

has anyone had a problem with their beam. My beam developed to cracks along the bracket that holds the beam. I met another gentleman from NY at the Tupper lake Tinman, who had the same problem.

Softride are replacing the beam, and i hope it get’s here soon as i am racing IM USA.

" has anyone had a problem with their beam. …"

The list of Softride Rocket beams that have not had problems would be shorter.

No problems here…not once (5 Softrides and counting)

maybe it was overtightened? (user error)

3000 miles and counting…

Almost 5 years on my trusty old Powerwing (now called Classic TT, I think) - no problems at all so far.

F.Y.I. I have been using a Rocket TT 650 for the last year and have had no problems. I’m one of those “lightweights” at 5’8" and 145 lbs…just to give you an idea of my personal specs. for later reference (see below).

Just out of curiousity, on what exact part of the beam are you experiencing these “cracks”. Is it the part closest to the frame, or visa versa (towards the seat)?

If closest to the frame, it could be “over tightening” of either the upper , or lower pivot assembly. Manufacturer specs. indicate to tighten the upper and lower pivot assemblies to 75 in/lbs. It has baffled me that some people will spend thousands of dollars on a bike, but won’t invest perhaps a hundred or so dollars on a good torque wrench…which I have found to be an invaluable tool, owning a Softride.

If towards the seat, I am left questioning if it is either a manufacturer defect…or, (no rudeness intended) rider weight. Rocket beams are generally rated for riders 200 lbs or less. If you’re under the 200 lbs., do you tend to have a “masher” riding style, or do you feel as if your legs are spinning in circles on the Softride. “Mashers” will tend to have a noticeable bounce (pogo effect) and I can only speculate that this would put extra stress upon the beam.

Hope all works-out well with Softride and you receive your beam A.S.A.P. Good luck at IM USA!!!

Jeff
