Softride Rocket problem

Right, who’s got any experience of this happening?

I’ve got a Rocketwing, with an aluminium beam. I heard a clunk yesterday, and some sqeaking today. Thought I should take the upper & lower pivots to pieces and reassemble.

Big problem with the upper pivot: the bolt head has sheared off (I guess that was the clunk) about 2mm below the head of the bolt, leaving the entire threaded section of the bolt in place.

Short of drilling it out and probably destroying the upper pivot assembly, anyone have any ideas?

Bring your bike to an authorized softride bike shop. Don’t mess with that mechnism on the beam. If you over torqued it when fooling with it then this is the cause of the failure. Also it should be lubricated yearly.

Good luck.

Take a THIN screw driver, pull out the pivot from one side of the frame…push out the other. Take out the bolt and get a new one…this is not Rocket Science (pun intended)

Well waddya know? You have skills besides that neopolitan thing! I got the little bugger out. And didn’t scratch the paint. I would have banked on the threaded part hold both bits together, but now it’s out in two pieces, it’s completely obvious that that isn’t how it’s designed to work.

Thanks Record.

You should worship record as the god he is. I know Dan does.

Glad you got it out…I am full of Softride tips…oh, and get a good torque wrench…
