Soft core

Not the hard-core bike bling that we usually see on this forum, but, for a father of two on a budget, it’s gonna hafta do. Here’s the spec…

2006 Cervelo Dual frameset w/ Wolf TT fork
Shimano Dura Ace 10-speed drivetrain, including 180mm 53/39 crankset & 11/23 cassette
Easton Velomax Vista wheelset w/ wheelbuilder.com cover & Michelin Pro2Race tires
Profile Design T2 Wing & T2+ cockpit w/ Deda Magic 120mm stem
Shimano Ultegra pedals
Nokon cables w/ full liners
ISM Adamo Race saddle

All told, I have a little under $2500 invested, and I believe it’s as fast as 95% of the bikes in transition (ie. if I lose a race, it’s not because of the bike). The only future upgrade planned is a Hed3 or Jet 60 front wheel, but I have to meet a few race result time goals first.

Hope you like it.

Steve

Nice job, I think that looks really sharp!

And you’re right, that bike won’t hold you back!

Nice bike. I like that color on bikes- all business.

There’s gotta be a better way to mount the computer, though. And how do you like the saddle?

If your name is “Steve”, why does your bike say “Mickey”?

Did you know your computer is mounted sideways?

Great looking ride! You need to get a “nob XL” to mount your computer someplace else though. Do a google search and you’ll find one ($12 or something). I think I got mine at Colorado cyclist.

That’s a nasty looking drop you’ve got there.

robert

Looks great to me. Who know the weight of the bike?

The computer being sideways doesn’t bother me. And, I like how it’s tucked down out of the wind. I’d love to find a better way to run the wiring, but haven’t come up with anything yet.

I only have a few roller hours on the saddle (was on an Arione road for the last couple of thousand miles), but so far so good. My sit bones are still getting used to it, but I do appreciate the lack of pressure in other areas. I’ll post a review once I get a few hundred miles on it.

Steve

Good looking bike. How do you like the saddle? The Adamo’s have been the most popular selling saddle in my store for the past 6 months.

Have you ridden it yet? It is so shiny that it looks like you might have applied ArmorAll or something like that to it. According to John Cobb the Adamo was originally designed to be ridden with the nose tilted slightly up but we haven’t seen anyone who liked it that way yet.

The silver is very pretty. What’s it’s NAME?!
and what’s with the white bar tape, white gets dirty

Nickname since birth. Middle name’s Michael. Dad’s name is Steve, Grandpa (who lived next door when I was growing up) was named Steve. Anther one would have been too many. I actually went by Mickey exclusively until high school, and most people still call me Mickey.

See above regarding the computer. I race with a Profile Design Aerodrink, so the UCM is a no-go. It’s really not an issue for me.

Steve

Thanks.

See above regarding the “knob”. I have one, but with the Aerodrink, it just doesn’t work out right. I actually like it where it is.

The drop is ~17cm. I’m 6’2, with long femurs (thus, the 180mm cranks) and long upper arms (thus, the drop). I spent all Winter slowly dropping the front end and training at each step to acclimate. This is about my limit. (Tried the extensions under the base bar, but it was just too much.) Fortunately, it works out so that I don’t need any spacers, etc.

Steve

Thanks.

I don’t know the weight (and, frankly, I’m not too concerned about it, since I’m a little bigger than the average triathlete). If I ever get a chance to get an accurate weight on it, I’ll let you know. It’s a 58cm frame with no real concern for light parts, though (aluminum seatpost, aluminum cockpit, etc.), so…

Steve

That’s interesting about the saddle. The instructions actually say that most prefer the saddle anywhere from level to 6* (or was it 7*?) nose down. I started with the front part level and it 1cm further back than it is now, but it just didn’t feel right. So, I moved it forward 1cm and tilted the nose down a bit and I seem to “fall into it” better now, so I’m going to give it some time before any further tweaking.

I use no-name A&D ointment as saddle cream. It tends to bleed through my shorts a bit if I go too far down my inner thigh (ie. off the chamois). That’s why the saddle’s so shiny. I purposely over-lubed a bit the first couple of times on the saddle, just in case.

Steve

Her name is Silver. (Hey, I never claimed to have a great imagination!) Could be short for Silver Bullet or named after the Lone Ranger’s horse. Depends on how fast I ride.

The white tape is the “Cervelo CSC” stuff that comes stock on some of their bikes. It’s actually fairly durable, cleans easily and is super-comfy. I’m not sure I’ll do it again, but I am pretty impressed with it and love the way it looks & feels.

Steve

Silver is a nice name! Hi, Silver!!! My bike’s name is Chatter. Chatter says, “Hi, Silver!!!” too

the white bar tape question is a joke, thus the winky face  I don’t know anything about bikes, and I’m a very practical person, so someone else had posted a picture once with white bar tape and I asked, seriously, why a person would pick white for anything that has a chance of getting dirty! (I go for black stuff). There was a reasonable answer to the question but I don’t remember what it was, just that it made sense.

what’s with the all-black wheel? it’s all, like, filled-in!

Sweet! I have a 2004 Dual, and I love it. Question for you: how tall are you? Your seatpost is raised way higher than mine - I’m looking to modify my position to get steeper and create greater drop btwn nose of seat and armrests, but trying to figure out how much I need to raise my seat as I move it forward. Looks like you have the saddle mount flipped around and the seat all the way forward on the rails. I have my saddle mount bracket flipped around, but currently only have it about 2/3 of the way as far forward as it can go on the rails. Just curious… Thanks.

Mike

Great looking bike! I like that silver the best of cervelo’s colors. You should look for a zipp flashpoint rebranded as a real design wheel. basically a 404 and the decals would match.

Keep it up!

Don’t sweat it…I’m not that into weight either but your setup is similar to mine, wheel cover, same seat, etc. but mine is a 2005 dual so I was just curious.

future upgrade planned is a Hed3 or Jet 60 front wheel http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i25/The_Mickstar/Dual%2007/right2.jpg

definitely the sexiest dual i have yet seen, remember you asking me questions a number of months back when i posted picks of mine (blue 05 with the same cover…), so PLEASE, if you go the route of the jet front, pay the extra $40 and get one with black and white stickers…

mickstar-

cateye has a bracket kit for like $15 that puts the computer 90 degrees to how you have it so that its more ‘normal’. its here: http://www.cateye.com/...e/parts.php?cid=1_41 unfortunately, i am not sure which one, but if you call them, they can help you out.

and by the way, sweet bike! (I also have a dual - the yellow one)
