Sodium Phosphate Loading, your thoughts?

Reading Rich Stern’s article made me rethink that old tub of Ecaps phosphate I have in storage

Anyone have experience with phosphate?

“In conclusion, current research suggests that phosphate loading increases performance in men in maximal and endurance exercise and has been shown to increase performance in 10’s, 25’s and max tests. A possible side effect of phosphate loading is that of gastrointestinal distress, which resulted in one subject vomiting after taking the phosphate. However, the exact mechanisms that cause these improvements have yet to be fully elucidated.”

Yeah, I use it for all A priority races. I have dehydration issues and this seems to help. I can definitely feel a difference. My cyclist friends are keen on it as well. I’ve been using it since I first read about it in the tri-bible. Gordo/Friel cover it in ‘Going Long’ too.

How much Phosphate at what time before the race and exactly what type?

Coggan read the literature, deemed it flawed and biased, and dismisses the concept entirely.

Just another point of view…
