So who has entered IM China

Whos taken the plunge and dropped the dollars down for China, 3760 RMB… Don’t think there will be too many locals at this price.

I’m in
.

wow that is US$508 by current exchange rate. That is even more than IMNA events. What gives??

I went to the website and looked at the pictures. Some of those roads looked like the size of a single american lane, but had the dashed yellow down the middle.

Also they listed cola on the bike aid stations. How would that work?

I would be more likely to get my wife to accept IMJapan or IMKorea, but for the next few(5+) years I will stick with the North American circuit.

and those were the good pictures. nice speedbumps on two of them.

Chinese are smaller

Please check the how to make flat coke thread. Clearly, it was popular in China

I sometimes drink coke on the bike and I do not have problems… Need to make it flat and keep the top slightly open…

Fred.

I did the test races they held down in Sanya, trust me the roads are much better than they look in the pictures, plus they close them so no traffic besides the bikes and marshalls.

The US entry fee is $470 different than the fee charged to local Chinese. If it’s anything like the other races they held there the “gift pack” they talk about will be really good.

My wife and I both speak Chinese as well so we can help anyone once we get there.

First year IM’s are fun, always smaller crowds, but other challenges that keep things interesting.

What is the weather like? And the travel logistics from the states? It looks interesting.

Weather will probably be around 80 and humid, winds can be interesting later in the day. Hainan is about the same as Hawaii climate wise. Peter Reid at Sanya said it was like being on Maui but at 1/4 the cost.

Travel is actually really easy most people fly through Hong Kong and directly to HaiKou, and according to the race director they will have vans to transfer athletes and their bikes to the hotels at no charge. They did that for us in Sanya as well and it was really nice.

Really cool was they lined almost the entier course with school kids all cheering so even way out on the bike course there were people cheering and clapping.

All this talk about IM China is making me all nostalgic about my childhood in Hong Kong.Just checked out the pics and now I'm about ready to sign up.

C’mon, you are taller than I am… like, by 2 cm

It’s not what I meant :stuck_out_tongue:

My recipe for flat cola is tip-top, but really I was curious about is in what form did they aid stations workers hand it out on the bike.

A cup would result in most of it falling on the ground, but I doubt they would hand you a bike water bottle full of coke.

Thinking of the Sam’s Club Cola at IMFL I am guessing that Sam Walton must be revered in China as the products from his stores must create 10s of millions of jobs.

Not me. I’m not a big fan of communist countries.

you may want to read up on some 20th cent. history. after liberating china from a bunch of dictators Mao turned to he United States and asked for help. we told him to buzz off. so, he went to the russians and they helped him out economicly and militarily but demanded a lot in return, like submission to the communist propaganda. and they humiliated him personally. see how that turned out.

oh, and ho chi minh also came to the US to ask for assistance - twice - he just wanted to get the french to back off for their brutal colonialist ways and we told him to buzz off too. that didn’t turn out too well for us either.

Actually more and more companies in China are refusing to do business with Walmart, they want to do more business in the west and the quality levels Walmart requests is below even the Chinese standards so they refuse as they worry they will lose other business as companies think they produce inferior quality goods.

It’s not what I meant :stuck_out_tongue:
I always thought that was a myth… and then I saw that pandas are included… so it must be true…

“The penis of an adult panda is only about 3 centimeters (1.2 inches) long”

http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/science/08/09/china.panda.reut/index.html

which explains why pandas are endangered…

Did you go to HKIS? I was there in the mid-70s.

Would you be referring to Mao Zedong, who was a leading member of the Communist Party of China in the 1920’s and is responsible for the deaths (or “liberation” if you prefer) of up to 40,000,000 people? Yeah, weird that the US didn’t support him in the 1940’s and 50’s after Japan was defeated, isn’t it. Its almost similar to us not supporting the Soviet Union in the 40’s and 50’s after the defeat of Germany. He didn’t exactly “submit to communist propaganda” unless you count him joining the Communist Party in his early 20’s well before he came to power as submitting. But you just go ahead and gloss over whatever history you want.
