Ironman video tapes from Versus with the sound off. I have playlists in the iPod to break the monotony.
Breaking Away, American Flyers, Flying Dutchman are all good cycling flicks, Riding Giants is a cool surfing flick if you want to change it up an think about warmer weather…those guys are insane
.
Boomerang! My son changes the channel and then puts the remote out of reach.
Best training movies in my basement have been running on the sun , american Flyers (from net flix ) ,
a Sunday in Hell , and especially hell on Wheels. Had to buy the later 2 but worth it.
i have an imac in the room, running boxee (or front row), and I’ve recently ripped all my dvds to a hd (100+). So i’ve been knocking them out while on the trainer.
Most recents ones… Spaceballs, Goonies and Groundhog Day.

Been watching episodes of 24, Friday Night Lights. Good 45 minute chunks. Do 1-2 episodes per session.
and it’s free.
Whats a trainer? : )~
Its sunny and 88 here!
In addition to porn, here are some other viable options:
I find it most helpful to watch something that keeps me focused. If I watch tv shows or movies I don’t focus on biking and I think I get a lot less out of my workouts.
My HR data, Power data and watch my effort?
I’m on the trainer for a max of 1.5 hrs and don’t see the reason to ‘watch’ anything. I do find it interesting that people have to take their mind off of what they are doing in order to do it.

Really? LOL!
I watch my indicated speed, cadence, elapsed time, ‘distance’, power output, heart rate.
Is there a less boring option?
x2 for forgetting Sarah Marshall
.
Just curious but what exactly are you doing on the trainer while watching these various shows/movies/etc…?
What is the goal of your training session? What are you trying to accomplish?
Chris, you might check out America’s Best Bike Rides - http://www.americasbestbikerides.com/.
60-70minute videos of beautiful rides in the Bay Area - perspective is that of the cyclist’s view rolling down the road. We use these in my SF cycling studio, M2 Revolution, to both provide visual appeal and organize workouts. I also like to roll down the road and its varying terrain working gears/power as I would if I were actually outside.
Enjoy.

isn’t that what spinnervals is? I agree that this is exceedingly boring.
If watching others spinning is what spinervals is all about then I’m the first to admit that I’ve totally missed the point. Instead I’ve actually done a focused effort during the video’s and barely even noticed the others spinning.
The stuff on the TV (tapes of races) is for a change of scenery. The music is to replace the sound of wind in my ears, and for another source of stimulus that’s not there inside my living room (don’t worry, I NEVER have the iPod when I head outside for workouts). And I wear a heart rate monitor to see what exactly I’m doing. At this stage in the season I’m just putting in saddle time but I’m varying my gears, occasionally changing the resistance on my trainer so as to get something resembling a workout.
I can’t watch actual movies or TV shows, either, because I do want to be dialed in to what my body’s doing. That said, the tapes of Ironmans and iPod don’t detract from that at all. A change in song or a commercial break represent a time to switch gears or change resistance. Good workouts, I think, and never the same as the previous time.

I’ve been doing this too, watching the computrainer chart display of an erg mode workout scroll by. The sweat has been dripping onto my glasses too much to focus on a movie or TV show though, even if I had a second screen to play them on. Hopefully, by the time I want to go longer with less intensity, I’ll be outside.
I usually just listen to music, I did watch the directors cut of apocalpse now on a long ride a month or so ago, It passed 3.5 hours pretty quick.
