So Instead of pay per client, now it’s $19 for the first client and 9 for each additional. But in return for the $10 I get 4 basic accounts - accounts which I obviously don’t use. So I get to buy 4 basic accounts whether I like it or not.
And what happens to the usat discounts. I think for level 2 coaches the discount is something around $1.20 per person.
So now instead of a $10 increase, we are talking about a $25 or more increase if you have 11ish people on your roster. Obviously more if you have more clients.
Gear’s email said" Many of these changes are a direct result of feedback from the coaching community."
I’m with you. Who uses the basic accounts so giving me something I’m never going to use in my monthly fee does nothing - maybe the option of that being two premium accounts if one didn’t want basic.
I think I saw that the NGB discounts would still be applied but I may be mistaken. Hopefully when they roll out the new final version it will make the increase more palatable with better mobile support and/or coaching apps but right now the beta is worse on my phone than the terrible flash version.
I went back an reread the email and I interpret it differently. But I may be mistaken. I read it as they are offering two different coaching options.
Unlimited. Still $49 a month, unlimited basic clients and 1 free premium account. More premium for $9. I see this as an extension of what they offer now, you just now get a free premium account.
Limited. $19 a month, one premium and limited to 4 basics. I suspect this is aimed at the newer or small client coaches. I know when we started out, 3 premium accounts ($74 /m) was steep for what we were charging. I would have loved this option.
Maybe I am missing something but that’s how I interpreted it. I don’t see any change for my business and for the record, I do use basic accounts for some of my athletes. If you read it differently, I love to see what I missed.

I don’t use the basic client option. So for my first athlete, I pay $19 rather than the $7.80? I pay now. So it’s a $12 a month increase with no increased anything functionality or service. I also haven’t seen any confirmation that the NGB discounts would still be in place, that will cost a bundle.
I used Addaero when I first got started because the cost was lower. The biggest issues I had with it were all related to using device files. For a long time synching with a garmin was not supported, only manual file upload was (I do believe this has since changed). My other qualm related to data was simply the difficulty of getting it onto my computer. You could do little to no analysis in Addaero so I had to download the files but it was not simple to do as I added more clients.
Not in love with trainingpeaks, but it seems to be the best currently available for my needs.
As for the cost increase, not in love with it myself either but it is what it is. I don’t, never have, and never plan to use basic client accounts.
This is my first year coaching and I didn’t charge beans because I was a rookie. This increase hurts a lot as I only took on 4 clients this year. I’m not sure I want to handle much more than that because I want to make sure I don’t stretch myself out beyond control.
For me, because of a small client base this hurts. Ugh. But it’s the part of doing business right? It is a tax write off…
I noticed the increase, and it didn’t sit right with me. I already thought TP was overpriced. I emailed all my clients to let them know that I will no longer be using training peaks, none were upset. The few that do love it hve given me their login info and I just add their workouts and review/download data through their account.
I am using an online scheduling system for my clients schedules. For the ones that like tp I log into their accounts and add the workouts.
Most of my clients are using the wahoo fitness app and immediately send me their workout files through that after finishing. I review their data with golden cheetah.
So what’s a decent alternative for clients that aren’t the most tech savvy? Golden Cheetah is great but I can’t imagine trying to walk someone through it’s interface remotely.
I’m not too interested in basic programs, I tend to like a thorough or in depth analysis type. As far as something that would be good for non tech saavy I don’t really have a recommendation. I don’t really have any clients or athletes that fit that type. if you are coaching one all they should have to do is upload a data file and send it to you for analysis. If they can’t figure out how to upload something, I would probably recommend they take a basic computer skills course. I think I would even doing for it cost wise, as it would lessen the time I am trying to explain something or trying to teach the basic computer skills (and the headache that comes along with it).
Good point. I’ll give it a shot with a couple of newer clients and see how it works out. I’ll most likely end up duplicating entires as a backup just in case.
I do have a few athletes that use an iPhone with their powermeters and wahoo kickrs. They use the wahoo app too, the nice thing is it actually gives an option at the end of the workout to automatically email the file. If you set it up once for them you’d be golden, it’s literally touching one thing to email the file. I believe the update works with android in case you have a client that has an android phone that has ant+
