So, the wall street journal says exercise can kill

If anyone can get there hands on todays (mon 11th) Wall Street Journal Personal health page, they’res a really interesting article talking about the benifits and risks of excessive exercise. They are saying that intensive exercise over 5 hours can be detrimental to the immune system and long term health, then the article mentions how vigerous exercise is responsible for 17% of all cardiac deaths, and how running a marathon predesposes you to death.
While the article mentions all the health benifits of exercise, i just found it underemphized them, in relation to all the cons. I think the point of the article was to tell people to get tested before they get all intense about exercise, but I feel it sorta missed that target.

My response to my father when he showed it to me was that, hey… i might die early, but i’ll die in good shape, and happy. Opinions?

there is a simple solution to this… get faster. if all of your long workouts and races are less than 5 hours it looks like we’re all safe!

Life predisposes you to death. 100% death rate so far and a cure isn’t very close as far as I can tell.

Exercise may or may not add years to your life, but it certainly adds life to your years!

Wall St Journal…where we all get our best health information. Phhhhttttt.

exactly tridork.

Ditto that!

“Live fast, die young, leave a good-looking body”. Can’t do that unless you do little exercise, I’d say;-)

Sounds like an article tailored to the 80-hour work-week crowd, which surprise, is also the majority of the WSJ’s paying subscribers.

80 hour week?

Sounds like an IM buildup week. 40 hours at the office, calling the bike store for parts, calling the coach and faxing training programs, surfing the web (Slowtwitch, Cervelo, and xtri sites), nipping out for a coffee that is actually a sports massage, then 40 hours of training, twittering with the bike, washing training clothes, physio and buying new gear since parts and clothes wear out so fast when putting in mega miles for IM buildup.

Is there another way of doing 80 hour weeks? I wanna know.

I guess they never heard of Johnny Kelly who died last week at 90+ years and ran something like 60+ Boston Marathons.

“It is never too late to fix your childhood!”

See the WSJ is right on point, all that exercise killed Johnny Kelly.

See he would have lived to 102 if he had stayed on the couch and snacked on doritos all day.
