So I think I will finally listen and get one of these for my back tire. Not sure where I can get one though. I saw they have them on the Trek website, but not in 700 23. Anyone else know where I should look. Did a google search, but didnt see anything.
So now i am revamping this thread, what else should I try out, since I am racing in four weeks, and want a fast race tire? I am looking for a 23 for my back wheel.
The closest bike shop didnt carry any of them. I am looking for something that I could by online, either that or some other fast clincher for the back.
Bike Barn http://www.bikebarn.ca/ has a great reputation for IMC support. When I needed gear just before IMC last year, coincidentally Bonty Aero TT tires that’s how I know they carry them, Bike Barn offered to ship them to me, but I elected to pick them up when I arrived in Penticton. They’d probably ship them to you. They are in Canada, though. Using that new invention, Google, I just found other retailers that sell and ship…search Bontrager Aero TT tire sale.
Bontrager Race X Lite Pro is what I used for a rear tubular… they have the same in clincher.
I’ve been happy with it, both “ride quality” and speed improvement over the Continental Sprinter.
If you have zipp wheels, why not a Tangente ? you don’t get the bontrager lip, but you do get dimples
Aside from a “track only” tire, it’s the fastest tire in Al’s current list…and it has the same durability as a Vittoria Open Corsa or Bontrager RXL Pro 23.
I might think about that for my front tubular, but I am looking for a clincher
Stupid name! Aargh…sorry, one of my pet peeves.
It IS a clincher. “Open tubular” is just a fancy name for a clincher made in the style of tradition tubulars (in that the tread is glued on to the casing)…
FYI - Open tubular is a clincher. It’s just a name that describes a clincher that has the suppleness of a clincher. I first saw it from Vittoria for their “open corsa evo cx”. The term “open” means it requires a tube and mounts on a clincher rim. Check biketechreview for an updated list of the Crr data. The table states whether the tire is a clincher or tubie.
Al would you mind commenting on the robustness of the Conti Supersonic which did very well as a new 20mm tire? Looks like once it’s a little used it could be the fastest narrow clincher.
Ha wow that’s pretty funny. I should have never doubted the top guys here! Seriously thanks for all of the help. Would you try using this on the road, or would it be stupid to do? I’m sure I’m going to sound stupid after asking this though!

Yes. It IS a road tire. It’s basically the same casing and puncture protection as a Vittoria CX (290 tpi) but with a different tread on it (both mold and compound?).
It’s a great road racing tire and I’ve been using them for crits and road races on my Jet 90s. I even have one of them as a front tire presently on my training wheels…

The tire actually belongs to Ron who races on it IIRC. I think he has had good luck but don’t know the specifics. It is very light (134 grams) with measured width right on 20 mm. Maybe Ron will comment on his experience.
