So… I was driving down the street today and I saw a fat guy in his 50’s, wearing a cap, jeans and a work shirt riding an early 90’s “funny bike” with a 24" front wheel and a carbon disc and the handlebars flipped around (so he could sit upright and hold the bars like a steering wheel, if you know what I mean). I thought “no way” so I drove up next to him and sure enough it was a carbon disc and both wheels had tubulars!
With the bars flipped around I guessed it wasn’t his bike originally and had been given to him by someone else, but it made me think: “who took care of his tubulars”?
a few months ago, I saw a guy wobbly riding through a Walmart parking lot while smoking a ciggie. Long stringy hair, dirty torn jeans, greasy ball cap. Rough looking dude.
His bike was a mid 90s era tricked out Serotta mountain bike: RS Mag21Sl Ti fork, CNC’d aftermarket cranks of some sort. A very rare bike.
I saw a Fuji Team funny bike in a shop just a couple weeks ago. Didn’t have disks, but it had tubies, and the full get-up (including Shimano Sante). It had a price tag of $350, but the shop owner said he’d let me have it for $200. I was bloody tempted…
Most likely stolen. I am sure someone is cruising around on my Giant MCR carbon with Zipp Carbon Cranks, Carbon Bars and Dura Ace and probably have mounted some sort of basket on the bars.
