I saw in the news yesterday that the Obama administration was ending the Bush policy of closing Medical Marijuana centers. So since we have moved into the realm of decisions based on fact and sound science. I looked for the FDA approval of this drug. I couldn’t find it. I guess in order to get it, you would have to conduct that $100 million dollar randomized clinical trial. You know the things the evil Pharma industry has to do.
But hey people say it helps them. Just like snake-oil helped people.

So much for science.
I’m a cancer survivor and I’ll let you know that it helps.
So until you’ve gone through chemo and you are puking your guts out all the time and you lose 30lbs because you just can’t stand to eat anything I’ll thank you to shut the fuck up and talk about something you know.
I know it is criminal, and not FDA tested. I know that it is currently a banned schedule 1 drug. What more is there? If it made you better great - that DOES NOT take away the fact that it is criminal. Then again, I speed - allot. Makes me feel good to do so. I accept the fact that it is illegal.

Just because your government has decided to bury it’s head in the sand doesn’t mean that other governments, like mine, haven’t done the studies.
Oh no you don’t! It was already stated that no research has ever been done. Sure the OP didn’t look to see any research was done but that doesn’t matter because he said none was done so in fact none was done even if somewhere done. So don’t let facts get in the way of the OP’s not have having facts in any kind of factual way.
Fact weed kills everyone who smokes it. If you smoke weed you will kill someone and rape a family member. If you smoke weed you will hit your brother in the head with an oar sending him to the hospital ruining his chances to get on the Olympic swim team. Facts.
Are you talking about the fact that the FDA does not approve it? May I point out I can go to any health food store and buy products that the FDA does not approve?
I don’t see anything in the wiki entry that addresses medical marijuana, or clinical trials.
If I were truly dispassionate I’d go ahead and look that up myself. But . . . I don’t care that much, and I’d much rather read what else in going on in the LR.
People are biased against lots of things (since life is full of things) and don’t do research on it. This is one of those things that I’ve formulated an opinion on and haven’t felt the need to figure it out definitively. That’s why I was hoping for some “science” or “evidence-based medicine” when I clicked on that canuckian link.
I clicked on that link; no science as far as I could tell, just a bunch of regulations.
I’ll admit that I’m biased against med marijuana, but wanted to see the science. Anecdotes make for poor evidence.
You did not look around the linked site very thoroughly I see. Go to the bottom right and click to get the PDF “Information for health care professionals”. Check out the section on “Pharmacological actions of cannabis in man”. Then you should check out the bibleography containing 147 references, mostly in scientific journals.
At least you realize that you are biased, that is the first step.
I think it is incredibly important that if you want something illegal you need to research. The attitude that something should be illegal just because is pretty lazy which explains our elections.
I’ve never voted on it (referendum style), nor have I ever made it a consideration when voting for a candidate. Have you thoroughly researched everything that you have an opinion on? WTF?

“While there are many anecdotal reports of the therapeutic value of smoked marihuana, scientific studies supporting the safety and efficacy of marihuana for therapeutic claims are inconclusive.”
I’ll keep reading but that seems like it’s setting up a pretty weak document.
"So if I understand the point of this thread, Cavechild thinks the governemnt should fund a $1oo million study on the medicinal purposes of marajuana. "
Or, how about, Cavechild thinks that if we’re going to stop enforcing the existing laws regarding the fact that marijuana is ILLEGAL, we should probably do some of our own science to find out if that’s such a good idea, and then either legalize the drug or not, based on the science. If we’re not going to go with all that, we should probably enforce the existing law.
Didn’t we learn our lesson when we couldn’t be bothered to enforce immigration laws?
