So how long does it take to come back?

I got stiffed by a virus a couple of weeks ago (bummer). I had one week of training reduced by 50% and a second week with no training at all (thankfully I’m now back in play). My question is, how much performance would I lose in terms of aerobic ability and any power over this time period off ?

depending on where you are in your training at this time, not really a lot. 2 weeks is probably just at that limit where you will start to lose fitness. i suggest you get back into the rhythm with 2 weeks of mostly aerobic work, without being overly cautious with volume. when i last got OT, i cut down for about 2 weeks and then got back into the thick of things without really suffering any major performance setbacks.

I’m into my 2nd week of no training and have the same concern. Doc. says maybe the trainer by the weekend. We can start "recovery camp " beginning Sat.

If the training can remain consistent the rest of the year my bet is I’ll loose nothing but it will take 6 weeks or so to get back on the former tangent.

I just went through this and it took about 3 weeks for my running speed to come back and for me to feel fluid while running. 2 bike rides or about 1 hr and it felt like i never missed time.
After 2 weeks you have lost some of your LT and your VO2max will have dropped a bit. Your aerobic conditioining may have dropped a bit but it is in the high end where the gains erode first.

So how long had you been out of action for ?

Last season , I was nailed with lyme disease… fortunatly, it was detected early and eraticated. However, I lost 12 weeks worth of training. Before it hit me, I was in my 13th week of base. I regained my same fitmness level after 6 weeks of training. At two weeks, I would venture to say that you would only need 3-4 days to rebound…
