As i read that story this morning it sounded like a South Park skit.
Legally: The firefighter would probably face murder charges, which degree I have no idea
Morally: The the firefighter would have been been better off to watch until the stupid prick made a threatening move (ie, unslung his weapon, loaded a magazine, then shoot his dumb ass)
Practically: Assuming the stupid prick is a fervent 2A supporter, he just did more damage to his cause in his poor attempt to prove a point.
What was missing was another good guy with a gun to shoot the firefighter.
Practically: don’t walk into a fucking walmart kitted out less than a week when an asshole shot up a walmart kitted out and expect a warm welcome.

From, the perspective of someone not carrying, I would much rather see open carry so I know where a gun is than concealed carry where I do not. There are likely several people around you with guns when you are in pubic, but you don’t know.

I know diddly squat about Maine’s laws because I don’t own a gun. I’ve only ever once seen someone open carrying, other than an obvious LEO, and it was in Acadia National Park which I imagine has different laws than the state proper?
It was in the parking lot of Sand Beach. It was probably a 50 year or so old guy, immensely obese, must have topped at least 300lbs. Maybe he was an LEO but he didn’t look like one (no identification and kind of shabbily dressed). He wasn’t moving well at all, gave me zero confidence that if the shit went down that this is the guy who is packing that I want around. I just figured LEO or immense douchebag.

I would rather not know they have a gun and not have it on my mind. If I walk into a Wendy’s and see ten guys with pistols strapped to their hips I am leaving. If they have then under their shirts, I am none the wiser and eating my burger. In both cases nothing will probably happen based on stats, but I rather just not know. No need to create the tension of publicly brandishing a gun.
