I think I am going to start logging snow shoveling to my TrainingPeaks account. It is the most training I am getting in lately. I’m glad I don’t have a major spring race.
If there was any cross-over benefit between snow shoveling and triathlon, I’ll be KQing this year for sure.
I live in Philly and share your pain. Was finally recovered from back issues til this winter from hell. I am eagerly awaiting global warming…
Man I feel for ya. I have not seen snow now in over 24 years and hope to never see it again up close. Can be great exercise though I remember shoveling neighborhood driveways until I bought my first riding mower and a plow for the front. Ever the entrepreneur at 13 I was making bank off snow banks in the winter and mowing grass in the summer!
Ah geez. Up here in MN, we use snow shoveling as our recovery workouts. /pink
But seriously, I routinely note snow shoveling in my training log for cross training. It is a nice change up when you spend every morning on an indoor bike trainer in the dark.
Cheers!

Is a Major race less important than a General race?
How about a Private race?
And that spring thing…I don’t think you are allowed to use springs in any races

LOL! I don’t need springs. But I have been searching Amazon for Marine Boy’s propellor shoes.

I’ve been telling my wife when we retire she can count on never seeing snow again. I may seriously have to move that schedule up. Life changes are hard for her but I am not a winter person anymore.
My grandfather used to say if you do something right the first time, you’ll never have to do it again.
I guess I’ve been shoveling all wrong.
I bought a non running 1970’s Ariens snow blower… I cleaned and tuned the carbs and it runs like a champ. Haven’t had to shovel since. It even chewed up the slop we’re dealing with in Maine today. Best 50 dollars I have ever spent. I’ll save my back workout for later tonight (yikes!)

It’s funny, but I was never a snow person. Being born in Chicago even as a little tyke I just couldn’t stand cold weather period. Different strokes for different folks. I’m such a pussy I don’t even own a coat b/c it might give someone the excuse to have me visit up north! Seriously I own a couple of light sweaters and zero jackets/coats.
Move to boulder, there is a metric sh*t-ton of snow in the mountains, the roads are dry and it’s going to hit 60f today.

Colorado is SO beautiful, but not really my scene. I’m addicted to saltwater fishing. Think of the most rabid IM zealot you know, multiply that x 10 and that’s my fishing ‘issue’. I have had some great dry fly days near Ft. Collins though!
October this is for you since you seem to be in the midst of winter doldrums. Some blue sky and lush green grass for your eyes…high of 65 and water temp 78 for today’s swim!

Had to shovel late on Sunday to make sure I could get to PHL at 05:00 Monday to make a flight to FL for my company’s annual strategy planning session. Three days in the sun (including my first two swim workouts in weeks, so shoulders and upper back were nice and tight afterward!), then landed back at PHL on Wednesday night right before they started canceling inbound flights.
Spent too much time yesterday (and again this morning) shoveling snow, not to mention all the other snowstorms in the last few weeks.
Because of the timing and where I live in South Jersey, I was digging D’Wife’s car out from Wednesday’s overnite 8-something inches of snowfall in the poring rain on Thursday morning
This shit just sucks

This logic still works. In this case “doing it right the first time” means putting in a heated driveway so you never have to shovel.
I actually bonked a few weeks ago while I was shoveling raking snow off the roof (had some pretty good ice dams).
Was working away and all of the sudden I was getting weak, nauseous and thought…“Holy schitt…I’m bonking!!”
Went inside, stuffed my face with a turkey sandwich and all was right with the world. Headed back out and finished the job.

Its supposed to be 85 today in Phoenix … what is a snow shovel ???

Out of curiosity, I wore my heart rate monitor yesterday as I shoveled 12" of thick, heavy snow in Virginia. Not as much of a workout as I thought. 83 minutes with average heart rate 101 and max of 134. I am a little sore today, though.

It does make for an interesting GPS track, though.
