SMP saddles

other than weight…what is the difference between the models in their line? Seeing some newer ones that weight a bit more but appear to be based on the original principle. Is there something I’m not seeing?

Main difference in models, besides weight, is thickness in padding and width. There is a site, something like SMPusa…or something like that, it has a great PDF showing all the saddles with dimensions and padding.

Found it:

FYI, the width will not only influence the space in the center but also the “rails” that support you. It’s a different feeling that does take time to adjust to.

Awesome…thank you nancy…trying to find weight ratings for the carbon railed versions…not that I care about saddle weight…just my own weight.

I’ve been riding a SMP saddle for the past 6 months. It took me a while to figure out which one would work well for me as the shape is slightly different for each model. If you look at the chart take a look at the cross sections. Each saddle has 2 different parts, the fore and aft, with a different shape. That in combination with the padding is what makes them different. The sides of the saddle also have a different slope which you will feel on your inner thigh area.

Once I figured out which saddle I wanted it took me a week or so to determine the proper saddle tilt that would work well for me too. Took a while but I’m pretty well dialed in now. Good luck.

.

As a side note… There are reports that the newer versions of this saddle, with the raised logo stitching, chew up your shorts pretty effectively. It may be worth trying to hunt down an older, silkscreened logo, model once you decide which you want.

And, as a plug… If you decide you want an Evolution, I know someone that has one of the older ones in great condition for sale.

Reasonably priced?

You’ll have to define “reasonably”. The darn things are ~$250 retail. So, in that light, I’d say “yes”. But, it’s still expensive for a frickin’ saddle.
