Smokejacks in VT needs Help

Hey Slowtwitchers, As you may have heard, if your in the VT area, Smokejacks Restaurant, a long time runner/triathlete sponsor, had an unfortunate fire. Currently, the cause is to be determined, but Smokejacks is closed leaving behind some major clean-up, renovations, an anxious and eager staff, and a Burlington legacy. Smokejacks has long been a sponsor of not only Green Mountain Multi-Sport, Ironman, and individual triathletes across the country, but numerous athletic events, community involvment, and individual support. Leslie and her staff are always willing to lend their support to help others succeed, whether it be supporting a young farmer with his name on the menu or young refugee with a job, organizing a 5k, providing some delicious food at a GMM picnic or party, allowing an artist to show their work, helping a newbie pay for their first race, or providing an opportunity for someone to use the local pool to train. Smokejacks is truely committed to serving the community. I have seen first hand the damage that has been done. Fortunately, much will be covered. But, the lack of business right now during these crucial summer tourist months will truly put the restaurant to the test months from now. Smokejacks needs our help! I believe, starting Friday, Smokejacks will have a permit from the city to do grilled items only on the patio in front of the restaurant on Church St. This is a way to begin to help offset the cost of this tragedy. There are some things that we Slowtwitcher’s can do to help get the ball rolling. Leslie has asked if someone could come up with a flyer and press release advertising the “BBQ”. Any computer savvy peeps Please Help ASAP. This person can work with Leslie on the contents of the flyer/press release. Down the rode, help will also be needed painting and some other random couple-hour projects. More to come as the initial clean-up has only just begun. I believe that Smokejacks will bounce back stronger than they were before. They have deep seeded roots in helping others and I hope we can help them through this time when they need it most. Please contact me ASAP if you can lend some support. Your help will be most appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Had a very pleasant meal there on a recent trip to Burlington. I was kind of excited after getting back from the trip to see that it was cited in both the August “Trail Runner” and “Outside” magazines on a short list of things to do in Burlington. Hope they are back open soon.

Hey Chef-

When my XC team gets back to campus in a few weeks feel free to put us to work. They’re back on the 19th for preseason and we start classes a week later. You can find my email on the SMC website if it doesn’t pop up through my profile here.

Peace-Joe
