Race report…very hot in South Texas and only 138 of us that decided to race. The race was a 1500m/45k/10k olympic with calm waters, rolling hills, and beating down sun. Results are not posted yet but finished on my watch at 2:49 and seconds. The swim was disappointing to my workouts there as a slow start kept me from breaking 30 minutes, bike leg practically identical as my last practice by just seconds (wierd), and the run was okay with 49 minutes even with both quads cramping and then left side due to the electrolyte fluid onslaught to fight off the leg cramps. Oh, and as soon as I mounted the bike, the left calf locked up and had to push fluids big time to get it to subside and still do an decent time.
A Tri? In Texas? In July? In the name of all that’s unholy why???
There were at least 5 triathlons in Texas this weekend.
Just looked at the results and had a podium finish (2nd) in the AG.
Congrats.
I’d have made #139, but was/am being cheap & lazy, post-IM CdA. Congratulations on finishing so strongly.
DIGS UP AN OLD THREAD
was this race a well run one? bike course reasonable? do I have to dodge cows? actually dodging cows is fun.
thinking of signing up.
Wasn’t it like upper 90s or maybe even 100 degrees there this weekend? You’re a tougher dude than me. Living in coastal San Diego, I practically cry like a little biatch running in anything over 80 degrees.
Nice job with the podium finish.
yeah and just had the race of my life today, with an unvented aero helmet and just 1 water bottle!!!
you get used to it, its like this every summer, every day, so you have time to acclimatize

And after enduring that heat you can recover with an ice cold Bohemia, green chile fried, and Tequila fried queso catfish on the Shady Grove patio. Oh yeah, that’s some good, good, good shit.

You should. I’ve not had a problem in all the years I’ve done it. No cows, either.
Swim: triangular course. Return has you somewhat in the sun; don’t forget your tinted goggles
Bike: ~28 miles on roads made more roughis from all the rain we’ve had this year. Hilly, too, but it’s more fun than dodging cows.
Run: false flat nearly the whole way. The bit along the access road of I-10 is the worse (no shade or breeze), but it makes finishing back at the lake all themore enjoyable.
Hope you can make it out.
