Who are you using for payroll? my current company is raising my rate from $12 to $29.99, i could see paying it if i had more employees, but its just myself and my wife and we only run payroll once a month. I am looking for basic things, direct deposit, automatically calculating taxes and being able to pay them online and to tell me when what forms are due.
I currently have been having my accountant/bookkeeper do my books, payroll and taxes all in the same shop, but I am considering having my wife take over the quickbooks duties. Has anyone used QB 2009 for mac yet? i have 2007, but haven’t bought the new version since i had been having the bookkeeper do it.
Has anyone used intuit online payroll? they are offering 6 months for free, then 9.95 there after, but i want to know how long the 9.95 is good for, i am going to have to call them tomorrow to ask. So far thats looking to be about the best deal.
I’m using quickbooks 2009 for Mac and I have to say, finally it feels like the windows version. Unfortunately I do not use payroll. Funny, I got asked this question just today by a friend (do i use quickbooks mac 09 and payroll).
The quickbooks for mac “payroll” is paycycle.com. Its the site my accountant uses for me, but really i could care less who it is as long its legit and some what cheap!
We have five employees. My wife does the books (Quickbooks) and we use a bookeeper to do payroll. We write the checks. It is a nominal charge so we leave the headaches to them.
I originally looked into using the Intuit system for payroll but was informed that, at least at the time I looked, couldn’t do all necessary state tax filings for my state. Not sure if that’s still the case but may be worth looking into.
For what it’s worth, I use QuickBooks online edition for all bookkeeping and absolutely LOVE it. The ability to access my Quickbooks from any internet connection, the fact that Quickbooks is automatically backed up on their servers (in addition to the backing up I do) and the fact that all Quickbooks updates are made on their end so I never have to reload the software onto my computer makes it a huge win for me.
I use QB for mac + Checkmark software for the payroll end. The integration is, well, good enough. I chose CheckMark because you’re not forced to buy their tax table update each year; you can update it yourself, which is not tough, especially if you’re only dealing with one state.
I ran my business for years with QB on a PC and was stunned by how crappy QB mac was by comparison, particularly w/r/t payroll. The mac stuff is catching up, but the lack of true payroll has been an ongoing disappointment.
Why do you need direct deposit if it’s just you and the wife?
EFTPS makes tax payments a breeze and only takes a couple of minutes each payroll. I love it. Well, as much as a sane man can love giving money to the fed.
