Any of you live in that part of the country? I have been offered a position and am wondering what the tri / cycling scene is like. Any info would be nice.
Home prices? How much per sq. ft. on avg.?
Thanks
Ron

can you be more specific?
Abington area. Could possibly buy in or around Bristol, Abington, Lebanon etc…
SW Virginia is one of the best, last “undiscovered” areas in this country for outdoor activities, including tri and cycling. There are a number of triathletes in this area, there really is no organized club, but there are plenty of opportunities for training, including group training. Abingdon’s Coombs Center has a nice indoor pool, an Olympic sized outdoor pool open in the summer, and a new masters program.
If you like mountains this area is probably best in the East. For cycling, lots of climbing. Numerous 1500-3000 ft. vertical climbs within an hour’s drive. There are road group rides in Abingdon and Bristol. Good country roads with little traffic. Motorists are generally courteous. There are also mountain biking opportunities very close. The Virginia Creeper trail is the best rail to trail in the country. And as for other outdoor activities–trail running, hiking, backpacking, camping, etc., this area is unmatched.
Housing is cheap by national standards. By the way, I am a long time visitor to this forum, this is actually my first post.
If you want more information let me know. Where are you looking to move? There is a lot more going on in terms of group rides, etc., if you stay along the I-81 corridor. Russell County (Lebanon), while pretty, is starting to get a bit off the beaten path.
