i’ve been giving some thought to the forum tough guys who hide behind anonymity, most recently seen in the bashing AustinTriCyclist received at the hands of some anonymous prick. (Slowman recently started a thread regarding this) so i’ve decided that my signature line will carry my real name from now on, since i think the anonymity is what makes people feel free to be a$$holes to others on the forum.
i think we should all join forces and reveal ourselves, or at least our names (we don’t want anything nasty here). i know it doesn’t do anything to the pricks, but i do think that it would make the community here a bit closer-knit and more respectful.
To add your name to your signature, click on “edit profile” at the top of the screen when you’re logged in and then edit your signature.
i think i have resisted in the past because i subconsciously want people to think i’m better than i am and if they see my name, they can just google it and see that i’m a 2:12 olympic-distance racer… not too impressive, but my biking is improving and i’m hoping for 2:02-2:04 this year.
anyway, i think we should all know each other by name. i think it’d make slowtwitch a better place.
Ok I am in - the name is Simon Chow, insurance broker by day. MOP on good days (5IM races), crap runner, soso biker and swimmer. If I believed what people have told me in the past I would be a competitve weightlifter. I have amazing speed when it comes to getting to the buffet table but not a lot else when it comes to endurance sports. Dreaming of a custom road bike with Campy stuff.
Yeah, me too. I just did it after reading the last bike store bashing thread that Dan responded to. As a former bike shop manager and mechanic I had always hoped folks would come me first if they had a problem. Then, if I was still a prick, they could go tell anyone they wanted. But, that was before the WWW and so flaming me would be confined to clubs and group rides.
This forum is like heroine in the hands of a junkie for some folks who have a bug up their butts about some perceived slight or another. Don’t even post that stuff unless you include a description of what you did to address your beef with the other guy. Otherwise it’s just chickenshit IMHO.
Mike Conway, from Danville, California. I run a fleet department at a Toyota dealership…as for tris, the shorter they are the better I place but I enjoy the training for the longer stuff. Makes no sense since I typically suck at the IM distance…
Glenn Larson. Been in the ‘tri’ game for just about a year – but I’m addicted. Trying to figure out how to convince my wife that I need a new bike vs. a new stove and refrigerator.
Grew up in Chicago, now I live in a suburb just west of the city. Ok swimmer, not so hot biker, can hold an 8 min mile for a 10k.
Systems integration manger by day, father of two by night.
Enjoy Tom Demerly’s web site and posts on this forum.
I have learned more about this sport on this website (slowtwitch and the forum) then any book, videos or magazine.
If this were a closed forum (i.e - entry only with valid membership), I’d be happy to provide all that info. But, it’s not. Then again, I don’t bash people in public either.
The people who need to know me already do. For the others, my PM is always open…and always happy to chat offline.
Murphy is my 5 year old Golden Retriever. It’s his world, we just live in it.
(so that makes Murphy’sLaw an almost clever double entendre. or not.)
Click on my profile, that’s all you get.
And here I thought this was going to be the ultimate natural evolution of threads like the “best legs” and “what do you do” type - I’m just glad there’s no pics of any ST’ers “uniting” & “revealing” themselves.
or if there are going to be, we need a soundtrack. “Hi, I’m here to read the meter. And oh my, it sure is hot out today, do you mind if I take off my shirt?” … BWOM-CHICKA BWOM-BWOM
I have always used my first name here, my last name is on my profile (Schmitt). Sucky swimmer, ok cyclist, decent runner at longer distances.
Martial Arts instructor, waiter at one of the worlds largest restaraunts and soon to be Tae Kwon Do Master. I too have learned more on this site than any book I have read or video watched.
yes, but if do reveal ourselves, at least we have created a community of openness that we can trust. Any wierdo can write whatever they want but we are then free to discount it if we don’t know that person. (then again, we are free to do that now
Hey, sam, you revealed yourself long time ago. I think we have all seen your web site. It’s pretty cool. I’m almost intrigued by how you got in the business. And hey, aren’t you supposed to change your name to hide your true identity to IronViper.
