LOL!
Which topic are we talking about in G land?
I don’t blame them, ST sucked big time last week…

Just last week?
which thread are we talking about?
Every time Bjorn races, the ST armchair quarterbacks come out
So what? He’s a professional athlete, right? That’s part of the gig, man- fans are always going to do that. And make no mistake, Slowtitch adores Bjorn. If Gordo is upset about the minor amount of second-guessing that gets mixed in with the awe and reverence surrounding Bjorn here, Gordo should try to develop a training plan to build thicker skin.
Good point Vitus.
I personally don’t know who Gordo is and don’t know of Bjorn either. I do know that there are many different training plans and each one should be developed to the athlete for peak performance.
Here’s my perspective though. I deem it rude and unprofessional for any pro triathlete or coach to slam on age groupers. Without us they’d have no profession.
I don’t think I need to say any more.

But to my knowledge there is no other site which has the same wealth of info/tips/ideas/articles all for free as Gordo’s site. You have to hand it to him, he is not shy about putting stuff out there in the public domain. For example, how many other top pros (IM podium level), publish their training diary as a matter of course? Going back years?
Sure all this is good for Gordo’s coaching business, and his general profile in triathlon, and so it is not just altruism. That’s fine though. He gets to raise his profile and create a business, we get to enjoy stuff off his site. The same as STwitch - you enjoy it, and indirectly through sponsorsip etc, you are putting money in Dan’s pocket. Ditto with Tom’s site. I may never buy a thing from Bikesport (it’s a bit hard from where I sit!), but the guy gets major props from me for putting stuff on his site that I can read and learn from. For all these people, the net is a case of putting stuff out there for free, and making moeny on the side. Fair trade. Quid pro quo. So far from dumping on AGrs, Gordo does a fine job of looking after us, IMHO.
It is also hardly unique to defend your friends/training partners/clients when they get a bit of stick. Try dumping on storming Normann on this forum and see how long it is before Cathy leaps in. This is standard stuff, and all put of the rough and tumble of the internet.
age groupers more or less pay these guys bills.
Hey! where’s my check? ![]()
I’ve hardly ever complained about criticism and Gordo certainly hasn’t. If some people here are upset by that remark maybe they need some thicker skin too.
Gordo’s site and tips are absolutely priceless.
All he said is that there are some on this board that are yahoos – and who could disagree?. Hell, I’m at least 1/2 yahoo.
If some people here are upset by that remark maybe
they need some thicker skin too.
yep.
Gordo upset? No. Not his style. More like just calling things as he sees them.

The very fact of you posting raises a good point Bjorn. Because our sport is ‘small’ there is not much of a buffer between the very best and the rest. By that I mean it is relatively easy to have contact with or meet the legends of triathlon, and this is something I personally really like about the sport. Every now and again there is going to be a little spat.
You have been the subject of much spirited discussion on this site, but most of it has been complementary, and where it hasn’t you have given as good as you have gotten, all with tongue firmly in cheek. Good on you.
I dont think there was any “slam” or anything negative at all in the post. He said correctly that there are those on this board that play monday morning Ironman champion and question how and why people make the decisions they do. Big friggin deal.
The next post is what intrigues me. Apparently the guy visits a trans-sexual board that calls us slowtwits!
You think it races as a woman or a man?
Gordo’s been very helpful when he posts over here. I can’t recall reading an inflammatory post from him.
He’s entitled to his opinions of our opinions. That’s free speech and that’s how we can grow to understand one another, uh, possibly. ![]()
And fans need to let us know how they feel as well.
It’s all about the dialectic process. Substance is so very far down the list…

Nobody ever called me personally an armchair coach… because the day someone does, I’ll start posting my predictions before every race. It might be rude for the pros that READ ST, but you’ll be surprised the amount of times I’m right.
Gordo’s place is full of extreme tri-geeks who don’t have anything remotely resembling a personal or family life. And I’d put some of the guys and gals here, and their finishing times, up against anybody over there. Focus that borders on the obsessive doesn’t compute, in my book.
I used to be like that, too. All it ended up getting me was injured, hobbled and burnt-out to the point that I had to take a 5 year break from the sport to deal with my completely-shot adrenal glands.

The way I read the post on the Gordo forum, the quote came from Bjorn, not Gordo.
IMHO, Bjorn had the right to make the comment. He’s been criticized on this forum after some of his races. He took it in stride. He made a comment about armchair quarterbacks on another forum. Big deal. I think the people that need the thicker skin are the people that are upset about his comment.
Andy
I’m not upset in the least about the comment, and I don’t care who it came from. I was describing a condition that, in my opinion, exists on the other forum. I also pointed out that that was the way I used to be myself and that it didn’t work out very well for me.
Perhaps it works out better for most people, but it sure didn’t do much good in my case.
Tony
I’ve lurked on Gordo’s site and posted there a handful of times. Since I’m not an IM, I don’t have a lot to offer there. That site is serious to the point of being anal. Much more fun over here.
Also don’t expect a lot of really good bike advice over there. Slowtwitch is by far a better site for this.
The problem with Gordo’s site IMHO is it is inhabited by a bunch of like thinkers. Nothing like a little controversy to stimulate “discussion”.
