Remember those “A Day in the Life of Amerca” and “A Day in the Life of the U.S. Military”, etc. etc. books? The concept was started as a promotion from Kodak when they introduced their disposable cameras. They sent thousands of them to photographers around the country (and the world) and then edited the photos down when they got them back to do the first book. Later it morphed into a series of books done by professional photographers.
Anyway.
With the “post your pic” thread a resounding success and the access to digital photography I propose the followig exposition on this forum (pending Dan’s approval of course). I guess we’ll make it a contest and we’ll give a free Timex Ironman watch and Rudy Project sunglsses plus some other fun schwag to the winner. I guess I’ll judge it since I actually do have some photo editing experience, unless you guys would prefer a “jury of our peers”. Let me know, anyway, this is what I propose:
Shoot a series of digital photos of your daily routine from sun-up to sun down. Keep it under 8 photos. the idea is to depict a typical “Day in the life” for you in these photos.
Use a hosting website like www.snapfish.com to host your photos and post them in your own thread titled “A Day in the Life of _______” with your name in there. Write short captions describing the photos.
Ther you go, there’s your assignment. Any interest?
If I am appointed Judge Emeritus this is how I will judge the contest:
Does the series depict a day, chronologically, in a succint and editorially concise manner. In other words- do your get a good idea what this person’s life is like?
Is it creative. Creativity doesn’t mean technical excellence.
Is it honest and insightful. One of the biggest obstacles about this is you are providng a huge viewership with a voyeuristic look into your life from sun-up to sun down. Scary. Who’s lookiing at you? what will they think of you? The mosr honest you are- the better.
That’s about it. Photo quality (from a technical perspective) doesn’t matter. It is about telling a story in pictures.
It means I have to forego an item on my Christmas list and go out and buy a digital camera (of my choosing muahahahaha) sooner rather than wait to get one as a gift. Sounds like a cool plan to me though. But given the absolutely boring existence I lead it wouldn’t be much fun to lose so soundly.
I think it is a great idea. It is going to take a bit of planning but I will post mine next week. One question… what is better, weekend day or weekday day?
It is a great idea. But how about a small modification?
To keep things concise and lean, how about just one photo from each person to capture a moment in one’s day. A series of photos from each person might be too long with all the posters on this forum.
You’re right. I thought that also. So, I figured we would do it in individual threads, like one thread would be “A Day in the Life of Greg/ORD.” or “A Day in the Life of Gerard” or whatever…
It would be awful tough to capture an entire day in one photo. It could be done I suppose. I am open to that- it’s harder though…
Hmm, since Tom will be the judge… I’ll need to play to my audience…
3 of my 8 pictures will need to somehow incoporate cats, I may have to borrow a Cervelo for my training ride and I’ll have to stage a viewing of “Titanic” with my lovely wife. Guaranteed to win!

I agree with you, you can’t really capture the whole day. But I think you can capture the essence of what most folks do with their time. And combining the composite of all these individual photos on one thread, you a get a kind of “day in the life of the slowtwitch nation” …
