…someone uses an annoying “teaser” line in the subject to try to get you to read their message? This also makes it harder to do a good search since the subject matter of the post doesn’t show up in the title.

Yup, that really annoys me. Almost as much as really long and meaningless signature files.
People CAPITALIZING, or balding, or underlining words for emphasis. It’s an insult to the reader’s reading comprehension skills - unless of course you do mean to be insulting…

AFAIK and IMHO, colloquialisms are becoming a far and away much to oft used a device for that which is said to be otherwise not literal or perhaps, as much as, if not more so, a tedium to read, or rather interpret, what the writer was attempting to say.
Perhaps clarity and brevity is a better resource for making a point.
