…usual stuff!..they did repeatedly say " no family memembers in the swim line"
…did mention that you would go from mile 87 on the bike to 107? without an aid station.
So stock up @ 87.
…and don’t listen to slowtwitch! ![]()
Personally did have one curve ball yesterday…my wife was supposed to fly in from DE.
Philly airport closed…so I had to go buy all the @#$% I forgot that she was bringing! More $$$$!
Beautiful morning in “The Ville!”
I tried this this morning and it gave me some ITBS.
no…your seat is too high
If the clamp isn’t resting on the frame it’s too high. Any visible seatpost is an aero nightmare and of course just wasted weight. So drop it down, saw off the bottom and you can’t fail to be faster.
I’m only pretentious becuase I recently won my M40-44 age group at a local triathlon. Granted, 4 guys in my age group finished in the Top 3 overall and Top 3 Masters… and there was one M 50-55 faster than me too, but I still won my age group.
“Regardless of what you read on Slowtwitch, swimming in the middle of the river is not the fastest way!” DOH!
Did they post any links to scientific studies supporting their statement?
This is obviously not scientific, but my swim time was 8 minutes faster the second year I did IM Louisville, on similar swim fitness. (I went from 1:16 to 1:08). The second time I did NOT swim towards the middle of the river. Both years they closed the canal locks at race time, which eliminated the strong current that we saw during the practice swim. Swimming wide just increased the distance with no advantage from the current.
Of course, being a river conditions will vary.
…there was a current @ this mornings practice swim.
…there was a current @ this mornings practice swim.
There was during last year’s practice swim too, then locks were closed afterwards and there was virtually no current on race day. I’d guess the same thing happens this year.
…funny joke to someone. I picture Larry and his brother Larry laughing as they turn the big wheel that closes the locks!
No such thing as bad publicity
Well actually,if you talk to a few “regular folk”, ST now has a reputation of a forum full of pretentious, elitist assholes..
sniff sniff and I love everyone of you guys. You complete me.
Slowtwitch called out at IMLP welcome dinner as well…
Matt Long (NYFD guy struck by bus) said something along the lines of " so what, I take some heat on Slowtwitch"
I remember that. Of course, he was claiming it was because of the pacing he got from PNF at IMLP when it was mostly for being a complete jack wagon at the NYC Marathon finish.
I must have missed that. What happened?
What happened at the NYC marathon or what happened at IMLP?
NYC Marathon: check out about 20 seconds into the video:

If you watched the big video buildup to Matt’s talk at the IMLP dinner, they completely edited that part out. They also edited out the part where he’s doing the pushups and instead showed just the briefest clip that made it appear he was kneeling down to kiss the finish line.
Now? I thought it was always perceived that way…

I don’t know much about the shape of the river for IMKY, but there may be some credence to their statement. The fastest flowing water tends to be over (or near to over) the deepest portion of the stream. Here’s some lecture notes from someone who’s much smarter than me http://www.tulane.edu/~sanelson/geol111/streams.htm There are some nice pictures near the bottom to illustrate the point.
It’s also good to know that the IMKY people can read.
Huddle and Frey regularly called out ST during pre-race meetings at IMs. ST is an icon. Having said that, I still get blank stares from hardcore triathletes that I talk to when I mention ST.
…that was it. They dredge channels down the sides of the river for barges and that’s why it’s faster on the side.
Seemed to make since last night!
