Clear your calendars ! Slowtwitch Gathering in the Midwest ! Everyone is invited to Nothingman 2007
What:
An informal, unofficial, more or less self-supported day of fun: The full iron distance.
There is no race fee, no qualifier, no official timing.
Feel free to do what you want. Come join us for part of the bike, or the whole thing.
If you are more social minded that time of year – substitute the run with a BBQ !
When:
September 15, 2007. This is the next Saturday after IMWI.
Where:
Madison, Wisconsin.
We will try to follow the IMWI course as closely as possible. This is not banditing or doing anything illegal. Just a group of friends out for a swim, bike and run !
Why:
If you are always looking for a challenge.
-You want to see if you can do the distance – with no time pressure.
-You need a looong training day.
A chance to meet fellow Slowtwitchers. Even if you can’t do the race, you could help with course support, and or take part in the post-race festivities.
No year-in-advance sign-up, the cost or pressure of a M-dot. If you couldn’t get in – here is an alternative.
By the way, this is not affiliated or approved by Dan Empfield or Slowtwitch.com… Enter at your own risk!
Suggestions and ideas are welcome !
Post on this thread if you are in, or have anything to bring to the table.
I can’t wait for someone to post and tell us that our finishing time “doesn’t really count” (like, duh).
I would imagine my whole “posse” (parents, wife, kids) makes the trip and we’ll likely include another visit to Miller Park and County Zoo (both highly recommended).
Will Camelbaks and Fuel Belts be the “basic method” of hydration?
Everyone in the race should be REQUIRED to carry an instant camera, and all developed pictures sent to all. Sort of like how they pass out instant cameras at wedding receptions and then the bride and groom get them in the end.
I will design and make Mark a t-shirt that simply reads “Flat Coke”. I think it’s mandatory that I do that.
N-dot! Love that. Well, I’ll be just a couple of weeks after IMC, and there is a 1/2 mary I might do that w/e, but it is so informal I don’t have to do it it that day, or anywhere near that state. I salute you, my distaff brethern. And may I just put out an intention: Silverman '09. j
We might have to do the swim someplace besides Lake Monona, unless we get kayak escorts. Options that have been presented are the lake on Bruce Street (tiny), and Lake Wingra, which would mean a drive off the course, which is fine by me. Worst case scenario is a pool.
Of course we don’t “have to” swim at all if we don’t want to.
I’d be game for doing the bike course backwards, which is easy if we start in Verona. Ride the out and back, and then ride the loop backwards (counter clockwise) twice. I think it’s harder backwards. Think of that screaming downhill with the sharp left turn (sucks going up), Garfoot and Witte. Of course, Old Sauk Pass is a riot backwards.
ya know,I’ve never done the bike portion backwards…occurred to me a few times but always said nahh…that would be interesting for sure…kinda funny too…
I am curious…what was or is factor that prompted this gathering to do the IM MOO course a week after the event itself?
Really like the idea of the whole thing…
