The first forum I found was in 2001 and had only 128 messages in 43 threads!!!
For you old timers, back then Dan was “Dan Empfield”, then later became “Empfield” and finally “Slowman”. Gerard was around at the beginning. So was Lew Kidder, and later Bunnyman. I found my posts about 6 months later. Still later you’ll see posters like Voldemort’s servant, Mike Plumb and -Tex. Shortly thereafter in 2002 Record 9, then Record 9ti (nka StillRecord10ti), Frank Day, Francois and Andrew Coggan (and his many subsequent noms de plum).
It’s fun to look back at some of those articles and posts and see what has changed and what hasn’t. By the way… you can do this with virtually any site. If you want to see the specs on a 2001 QR, for example, just enter Rooworld.com in www.Archive.org and click away.
“I’m not here to judge. I myself am a poop. I have no blind-spot. I know I’m a jerk. Scratch that. Make it egotistical jerk. I accept and embrace this fact. I am unfit, therefore, to rate people on personal godliness.”
Scary thing is that I actually remember some of those posts from 2000.
I’m embarassed to say that Senior Bunnyman freaked me out from the get-go. He’s off on this tirade about tubulars, talking about all this glue stuff. I’m thinking what the heck is this glue crap he’s talking about and posting how to do it right. I wasn’t using glue. I had tubes. What gives. I just spent a fortune on a new QR and no one gave me glue. So I start e-mailing my buddies that were just getting in the sport, and who like me had just gotten new bikes, telling them “guys, we’re doing something really wrong here . . . our tires will fly off.” They get all nervous, and of course were clueless. I make some stupid post about not gluing, Doug responds incredulously. He sends me some PMs. Wife wants to know what kind of whack site I’m on where I get PMs from a “Bunnyman” (tough to explain that one). Finally someone says, “are you sure you don’t have clinchers?” That word was foreign to me, but heck, he was right.
