Slowman has been at it again, reporting on the above mentioned letter, which again seems to raise more questions that it answers. However, I have a question that was not addressed by Slowman, that I could use clarifiaction on.
In the Les letter, Les states:
“ITU was recently sent positive tests from the Ironman competition in Kona, Hawaii. I would respectfully request that you ask your staff to redirect these tests to the “for profit” private companies concerned.”
Now, I thought that the sequence of events was that a positive test came out of Hawaii, and that Les first let slip that it was a Kona athlete that tested positive, well ahead before anyone else knew, and for which he was not responsible, while smearing Ironman at the same time. Slowman investigated as to why the lab was sending non-ITU results to ITU, revealing a lack of consistent policy. Then came the Peyton Place twist that the positive was an out of competition test for an ITU athlete, who apparantly had some kind of clearance, as it was not a reportable positive (assumed TUE or something along those lines), and it basically went away. Now, comes this letter to Dick Pound, citing positive tests from the Ironman, not ITU related.
Was there more than one positive test? Is McDonald muddying up the waters again? Or, can he not keep the sequence of events straight? Or, is it me that can’t keep everything straight?
