Did I read correctly that Dan rails against product managers that spec kaleidoscope-like wheels or the latest gimmic, to only two lines later proclaim he has high hopes for the latest FSA hub gimmic?
I know product managers want to spec sexy wheels that sell, hell it’s only smart, but there are some cool looking wheels that work quite well.
Sack up and spec a nice set of Eastons! They look H-O-to tha muthafuckin-T!
And going back to freewheels over cassettes?? Dan, you can still mix and match cogs, just don’t buy Shimano or Campy.
Any idea why am I finding this feature so fun to read? I need to get out more.
Mavic Open Pro Rim (black anodized), radially laced to an Ultegra hub.
At the rear. Same, but with radially laced on non-drive side only, triple cross on the drive side.
Race wheels? HED3 clinchers. I can’t afford them yet but when I DO get them, I don’t want to suffer “death by tubular costs”, so I’ll stay with clinchers.
My Velocity Aerohead’s that came with my QR SE from Slowman, (and now on my P2K, have proven themselves over and over. Perfectly straight, never needed any truing or anything in 10 years of carrying around a fat bastard in training and racing on some really obnoxious Kiwi roads. Great wheels!
