“Will you be posting a final build and photos?”
you bet, with race wheels on, etc. i hope to have this done by this weekend, because, tho i didn’t buy a UCI annual license this year, the state TT is just up the road from me, and i think i’d like to practice getting my arse kicked this weekend before i get it kicked next weekend. so i’m going to see today if i can buy a one-day, and what clothes i have to wear, etc. maybe tom knows this.

Yes, you can apparently enter any Masters category with a 1 day license ($10), but you aren’t eligible to be awarded a championship. Registration deadline is midnight tonight (Wed.)

I forget how old you are…what age range would you be in? I’ll be in the 45-49 group.
Clothes? Any “sleeved” jersey and regular biking shorts is fine, but a skinsuit would be better. You just cant wear any sleeveless trisuits or anything…although you probably could get away with one if you put a sleeved technical undershirt under it.
Plus, of course, you’ll want your shoe covers…and don’t forget to glue on your number, although as of this year you ALSO need to have a pin in at least each corner (another silly rule IMHO).
Oh…and in case you’re wondering about having to meet any UCI equipment or position requirements, you don’t. The only applicable rules are USCF, which can basically be distilled down to: “It can’t be a recumbent, and it can’t have fairings, but wheel covers are allowed.”

Good thing considering his bar choice!
not sure I understand what you’re getting at. Did you read his reply to this thread?
Yeah…something about shoes…!

The Devox bar isn’t 3:1?

The current DEVOX bar used on the 2010 DA Di2 model is indeed 3:1. The original carbon Devox bars were not.
In any case, I was referring to the 75cm/15cm rules for someone like Dan who rides so steep. I’d be really suprised to hear he’s not over those marks even with 5cm M.E.

What? Do you mean that you didn’t realize that the 3:1 aspect ratio applied to bars at the time you developed them? I’m shocked, shocked I tell you…(just yankin’ your chain

Yup…no worries there…or even on the following weekend
Slowman, for this jaunt, do you have to be UCI compliant? This would certainly effect fit.
I just read your story about building the bike. I was with you until you said that you did not have a BB30 crank and planned on using the insert. You can’t get a hold of a BB30 crank? Seems silly if you like the concept of the BB30 not to take advantage of it.

i’d be illegal as regards 1.3.013, as i’m +5cm (my saddle’s even with the BB). but i’d be okay on 1.3.023, as i’m 80cm of cockpit (at 6’2" i reckon i’d get that ME).
" You can’t get a hold of a BB30 crank? Seems silly if you like the concept of the BB30 not to take advantage of it."
i’m trying to get hold of a bb30 in 170mm with a 110mm bolt pattern. in point of fact, it’s hard to find tri stuff these days. i can’t find any latex tubes. and ask your LBS whether he can get any trek, specialized, felt, cannondale or cervelo tri bikes these days. it’s tough out there. you guys bought everything i want.
“for this jaunt, do you have to be UCI compliant?”
i shall apparently not have to roll my bike up to a jig. if i did, i’m okay as regards every rule except 1.3.013. if i had to i’d slide the saddle back and nose ride it. but i don’t think i’ll have to.

I guess that I must have bought the last sram one in 170
You could always use one of these:

Try getting some of the Bontrager branded latex tubes through your local Trek dealer…I had mine order some up just a few weeks ago and had them in hand in just a couple of days.
The Trek store doesn’t show them as “out of stock” either:

You know, if you want to run a Quarq on that rig, I might be able to loan you the prototype one off of my road bike. It’s not BB30 (but you can run it with the sleeve), it’s 170mm arms, but it’s got 53/39 rings on it…which should be fine for the events you’re contemplating, no? Not a whole lot of steep grades in either TT, right? The only thing you’d need to find is a head unit (Garmin 705 or 500?) to pair with it…

IF you did need to worry about that (and you DON’T), I would suggest throwing an Adamo on there and then you’d be fully compliant

i am not worried about it. i’m not personally an adamo fan, that is, i’m a fan in theory but not for me. my ischeal tuberosities complain when i’m aboard the adamo.
now, state TTs, this weekend, it’s kind of iffy what the rules really are w/regard to what makes a bike a legal bike, but, i asked the organization and there will be no jig roll-up.

“iffy” in what way?
It’s pretty clear from the race announcement that “all USCF rules apply”. Since this is not one of the “exceptions” that need to follow UCI rules (i.e. a selection race for international competition, national championships, etc.) then it’s just what’s written out in the USAC rule book…of which there are no position restrictions (besides not being recumbent) and the equipment rules are fairly wide open. You can even run an old “funny bike” with unequal sized wheels if that floats your boat
There’s usually at least one Lotus floating around out at that event, not to mention a Hooker or two…
““iffy” in what way?”
well, the race organization seems to think that we ought in theory to be respecting UCI rules at championships. there are the rules as they are written and the rules as they are interpreted by those holding the race, and, he who wears the blue blazer wins. i thought it best not to get into any debate, because, the point is, USCF rules are effectively what are being used.

Interesting. I understand your reticence at “debating” that point…but, wow…
Speaking of championships…it’s funny, but one thing that always rubs me the wrong way about this event is that it is referred to as “States” and the “State Championships”, when in reality it’s the Southern California/Nevada **District **Championships. I think the guys who win the Northern California/Nevada District Championships might have a problem with someone from SoCal being listed as a “State” champ, or wearing a “State Champion” jersey or skinsuit…but, that’s probably just my own little nit to pick…
