I have a long history of dental work due to a moto X crash some 25+ years ago. Bridges, root canals, caps, extractions and implants very soon. Over the years I have noticed that I tend to have pain or discomfort around the affected area when I am under heavy training workloads usually before a priority one event. My regular dentist has not wholeheartedly acknowledged the correlation to heavy physical workload. The periodontist I have been going to (recently) for implants thought it might have something to do with the immune system being low and allowing infection which inturn affects performance. My performance seems to go down a bit when this happens.
This has been a puzzle for quite a few years and then I read Slowmans piece…AMAZING! Thank you Slowman! I am not imagining this. I feel much better just knowing that someone else acknowledges that a similar condition can exist.
None of my training partners have ever experienced anything related to dental infection caused by or affecting performance. Has anyone else had a similar experience with dental woes and have you found a reliable solution when this phenomena occurs?
I recommend twice a day antiseptic mouthwash. Should keep the flora and fauna at a level you can more easily cope with.
Works very well for me - cured the oral ulcer problem and associated run down feeling I was having post kidney transplant from my altered immune system responding to bacterial insult or injury like biting my lip. Since I started using the mouthwash 2.5 years ago I have only had one recurrence - down significantly from once a month.
Second, there are some studies which suggests that dental infection and gum disease can spread to other parts of the body and affect general health.

I have used several cheapo house brands with the same results, even though by taste the inter batch solution strength seemed to vary. As long as it’s antiseptic mouthwash it should produce similar results.
What does seem to matter is swishing it around for a minimum of 30 sec and better to do a minute.
