Slowman's P2SL Review

I was particularily excited to open ST this morning and see P2SL on the main page since I just bought one myself a few months ago. I love the bike, so I was curious to see what the Slowman had to say about it.

One thing I noticed about the review is that it seemed to focus on the build of the bike rather than the bike itself. Perhaps that’s because the P2SL has evolved into a super solid bike (I’m biased), but the only improvements Slowman offers were better brakes and a better aerobar spec. In my mind, those improvements aren’t really related to a bike review, since what components are on a bike are secondary to the design of the bike itself.

And that’s why the P2SL is so awesome. Slowman suggests a better build – and that’s the only suggestion because the frame is one of the best designed frames out there.

I was happy to see it as well since I’ve been riding mine for a year now. Awesome bike plus I like the fact that I’m supporting a local Canadian company at the same time…

I read it and thought, on some small level, he was trashing the bike bascially equating it to a movie start trying to hang onto past glory…I dunno, I am buying one as a training/Powertap frame and think it’ll be fine.

I’ve had my P2SL for exactly one year today. Not one second of buyers remorse. I loved Dan’s review because that’s exactly my impression. Since I have an '06 it came with a Vision front end which I absolutely love and I also put my Tri Stryke saddle on it. I would add the the re-branded tektro brakes are pretty shitty. I’ve upgraded to Duara-Ace and the difference in stopping confidence is hard to describe. It’s funny, because the one last upgrade I thought I might make was the brake levers. Glad to hear that Dan agrees. Serious bang for the buck here.

But of course, he had to put in the take away about the ride of a carbon frame…maybe my twin girls don’t REALLY have to start college next year…

“One thing I noticed about the review is that it seemed to focus on the build of the bike rather than the bike itself.”

it rides with an oaky flavor, against a background of cherries and vanilla with a hint, perhaps, of cassis.

I did find mine a little tannic at first, but that seems to have mellowed with some time in the garage.

Classic stuff! You need to come up and do Vineman this year and I will take you wine tasting here in Sonoma County where you can use all that prose! Since my Lucero is made in China does that mean it has cork taint?

“Since my Lucero is made in China does that mean it has cork taint?”

it may well have cork taint. otoh, if your cork smells like taint, i think that would be taint cork.

What does it mean if your taint smells like cork??

i’ve had the bike 2 years or so and I’ve been second guessing it with the thread about the p2t vs. the p3t and the HUGE wattage difference between the two frames.

if you’re just going to sponge bath it, it’s gauche to do so with anything more drinkable than two buck chuck.

Slowman,

Your positive assessment of the P2SL seems to come at the expense of all P2Ks. All P2Ks are not created equal apparently. I debated my purchase of a 2005 P2K vs the P2SL when I purchased mine. Why the debate between the two? They are the same bike. The only difference between the 05 P2K and the SL is frame color and a few grams of weight because of the anodization “paint” used on the frame. All other components were the same- FSA cranks, Dura-Ace derailer and shifters, adjustable rear drop-outs, VisionTech front end, saddle, etc. For the $100 difference between the two bikes, I chose to go with the K. White to black wasn’t worth $100 to me.

There must have been some pretty significant short comings in the pre-2005 P2Ks.

Safe racing-
