Slowman is coming to Raleigh!

The infamous Dan Empfield is gracing us with his presence the weekend of May 14-16 in Raleigh, NC, at our Triathlete Training Clinic.

He will be our guest speaker (topic is bike fit) at our Saturday Night Dinner (which can be purchased separate for those not attending the camp) and teaching bike economy skills during our bike clinic.

I also hear he is getting up with the locals for a little run as well. If you ever heard how quick this guy is, now is the time to challenge yourself.

We have a great lineup of coaches presenting that weekend including Dr. Chris Eschbach, Dave Williams, Karen Buxton, Nutritionist Tracy Owens, Physical Therapists from Sports and More PT and myself, Maylene Wise. You can get fitted by a certified FIST fitter, tested at the Human Performance Lab at Meredith College, have your swim stroke analyzed (via underwater video) and much more.

For more information visit our website at www.ATP4Athletes.com. Only a few spots available for the weekend and fewer for certain one day passes.

Who is Raleigh and what is Dan Empfield?

Who is Raleigh and what is Dan Empfield?

Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina

Dan Empfield is… well, let’s just say he’s the reason you are able to post on this forum - http://www.slowtwitch.com/mainheadings/aboutus/aboutus.html

Chris is a great guy and an awesome coach!

I will defnitley pass the word on. If you want to get in touch with him, here is his website: http://www.humanperformancetesting.com/

Just kidding Maylene… that was a sneaky Bump. North Cara-who? (don’t tell anyone but lets just say i am quite familiar with the 919 area code)

“just say i am quite familiar with the 919 area code”

didn’t you asked WHO (not WHAT) is raleigh?

late renaissance english courtier and explorer. he sent a pair of colonies to roanoke island. he never visited north carolina but his name remains there just the same.

he was eventually beheaded.

i, like raleigh (who never to my knowledge spelled his own name “raleigh”), have also founded a colony. I have not yet been beheaded, however.

we also both founded bicycle companies, and while i named my models the superform and the borrego, he preferred more run-or-the-mill names like competition, professional and international. this is somewhat disappointing, as he was also a poet and could’ve done a better job of naming his bikes.

unlike raleigh, i SHALL travel to north carolina, and what i WILL do is unlock the secret of how to get power and speed out of your bike position.

my understanding is that the organizers are offering a weekend camp, or just single days, or just a catered (dinner) saturday night session at inside out sports. that’s where i’m going to spill the beans.

You also forgot that Raleigh was the father of the cigarette, and I do believe that a brand stills bears the Raleigh name.

“Raleigh was the father of the cigarette”

i’m so glad you brought this up. this is part of the intrique and controversy surrounding sir walter, that he was both a tobacco executive and a father of the bicycle. this is why so many of the earlier european bicycle racers were also smokers. it’s taken 400 years for science and sport to finally catch up to this dichotomy.

i believe this is why he was beheaded.

While you’re there, will you also be solving the mystery of Roanoke?

So how did the clinic go? Did Dan spill the beans?

Well, if you know Dan, you know he does more than spill the beans!

The bikefit talk went well on Saturday night. Luckily, most of the people there were bike geeks so they understood all the centimeter-this and degree-that language. He even took a look at a clinic attendee’s setup and put in his 2-cents.

Dan also joined us at the round table discussion on Saturday and led the bike clinic on Sunday. I think most people felt one of the highlights was cycling with him. He opened a few eyes with teaching some economy skills on the hills. But beyond all the knowledge that Dan has to share, the best part was just hanging with him. Those of you that know Dan, know what I mean. He is quite the character and has more stories than anyone I know, except for my 80 yr old dad who used to own a bar

The rest of the clinic went well and we heard great reviews of the quality of coaching and the professionals at the seminars. Great nutrition seminar that gave personalized information for long course nutrition and hydration and the PT had some useful information for preventing common injuries of triathletes.

We look forward to doing this again in the fall or spring but offer single clinics in all these areas throughout the year and in different parts of the country. If anyone wants more information just visit the website (www.atp4athletes.com) or email me and we will keep you updated!

“Luckily, most of the people there were bike geeks…”

Now, that hurts! Oh sure the shoe fits, but couldn’t you say “cycling enthusiasts” instead of bike geeks?

We don’t get no respect.

Joel

No, I think bike geek is quite proper.

This is TOO weird. I was just looking for your email and it’s not on your profile. I have the pics, send me a mail (maylene@atp4athletes.com) and I will zip it to you.

Do you know how to post it here?

Dan, just come out with an editorial supporting PowerCranks, and you can be right up there with Sir Walter in a heartbeat.
