Dan,
How about it? Lay it on us.
Somewhere on this site I recall he stated it’s his current teacher’s pet. That was a while back, but it was on his fit bike two weeks ago, so…
I think he did talk about it. Maybe it was somewhere else I read it. The reviewer gave it a very favorable review. Looks like a nice saddle.
A couple months back when he wrote his series on the Perfect Tri Bike spec, I believe he covered that saddle as the one he’d pick. I can’t find it off-hand, but I recall it being quite positive.
Yeah, thats def it. I remember he commented on the fact that the seat was designed to make racking and unracking by the saddle easier. I can’t seem to find the specs for this perfect tri bike anywhere on the website, I assume he just never linked that page after it got pushed down the front page. Perhaps he will see this and ressurect that article.
LOL I just asked this yesterday…HERE
.
I freakin love this saddle. I have tried a slew of saddles including the Arione and this one has suited me the best. I usually even forget it is there. Not like before where I was extremely uncomfortable for most of my rides.
The fabric does tend to chew up my biking shorts though.
Got it, love it. Buy it.
I thought I remember him saying someting about it, but couldn’t find it on his equipment review section on the ST home page.
Don’t bother reading any more about it. Get one now. The most comfortable saddle I’ve ever ridden…I ride pretty far out on the nose so comfort there is something I wasn’t accustomed to.
–from “Ideal Tri Bike Setup- 2005”
"As for the saddle, this is an easy one. Profile Design’s TRISTRYKE is priced appropriately for the OEM market, and is the best saddle I’ve yet ridden for my own riding style. While I like the Fizik Arione Tri, and the SLR and its triathlon version, it’s Profile that’s hit it our of the park.
"But it depends upon what the goal is. Were I a product manager trying to make money for my company, the saddle, and handlebar tape, and stuff like this is where you say, ‘Look, people are individual, they’re going to change the saddle anyway, so why not just take our best stab at this while not spending too much money, and then let the customer take it from there?’
“That’s the appropriate approach, and I might single out Felt as a company that has same very nice OEM saddles. I’d probably do what they’ve done were I making bikes for sale. Likewise, I’d be suprised if Cervelo and QR don’t have their own branded saddles for '06, and no doubt they’ll be pretty darned good. But if I were spec’ing a bike without such considerations, Profile’s new saddle is the cream of the crop, at least so say my ‘boys’.”
…God, I’ve got to find something else to do with my time.
By the way, the saddle’s great, at least compared to the Cervelo one that came with my Dual 10- it’s real cushy up front and the center cutout is actually big enough to be of real help when you’re not all the way up on the nose.
I think I remeber there being another post/review on this saddle previous to this one that talked about these issues but I can’t remember when/where.
Hookem, How about for riding back on the sit bones? I ride on the nose of my azoto and it’s as hard as a brick, so I’ve toughened up that area. However, it’s nice to slide back and give it a break every now and then, with the azoto its slanted so steeply towards the front that you slide down after a few moments on the back, it’s not comfortable back there either so I just do it give the soft tissues some relief. On the profile website, the sideways veiw looks like it’s pretty flat, which is good, no sliding down.
Thanks folks. I guess I should try one for Christmas…or maybe Thanksgiving?
I slide all around my saddle, depending on what the power needs and terrain dictate.
The profile of the seat is flat, but if you look at it from the side it appears to be tilted up if you have it set correctly…because of all the very comfy padding on the nose! I went from the Specialized body geometry seat with gel directly under the seat bones to the tristryke on my road bike as well. I can’t find anything wrong with it. Maybe too long if I was forced to criticize it.

Thanks!
Ok, Dan, why isn’t this accessible under product reviews???
No offense, but that seems a good place for it.
