I was swimming with my tri squad yesterday and this big huge guy jumpos in the far end at stuggles to swim 25 metres in the deep end and then sort of hangs on the ropes gasping for breath blocking most of the lane. As I swam by I said “Excuse me, this lane is being used for coaching” and he says “oh I’m sorry, I didn’t realise” and sort of floats off into the fun section of the pool.
Next time try this. You are meant to get all hot under your swimcap, rail against this guy, and then do some aggressive flip turns. Then you scream at him at the end of the lane, and he tells you to f*** off, and you call the lifeguard. He shuffles over, has a word to the chap, who flips you off as he leaves. You then jump on this forum and attract a whole bunch of astonished replies about what assholes people are.
Your approach, where a guy makes a mistake and you politely inform him of it, and he responds in kind, is far too adult.
I know at least five thirty-something career women types who are looking for someone to have babies with Smart, easy on the eye, but they don’t do tri’s so I doubt he would be interested. Personally I find earning capability a very attractive trait in a woman.
It’s not so much the “big huge guy” who “struggles to swim 25 metres” that pisses me off - it’s generally the group that likes to stand at the end of the lane and have a 10 minute conversation about how exhausted they are after the one lap they just swam. They leave no room for those actually swimming to touch the wall. Although, the “big huge guy” at our pool that loves to do the breast stroke in the fast lane is damn annoying if you are anywhere near him.

I am accepting applications for my next ex- These sound great. Any in So.Cal?
We haven’t had a dating thread in about 5 minutes, so I thought I would hijack this one.
Sounds familiar…I just had an email rant to someone about my swim last night…fast lane with people going slower than those in the slow lane…people swimming head up, hair dry in the fast lane…people trying to race me down the pool for one length and then me bashing them as I turn and they stop…“standers” that get in the way at the end of the pool talking about what an a$$hole I am because I’m pushing them out of the way so that I can turn…lifeguards that sit there with their thumbs up their a$$es doing nothing…yada yada yada…can’t wait for Masters to start up again in September…
Damn…you guys need to go for a bike ride…nobody in my lane!!! : )
Actually just got back from a sucky bike ride…ran out of gatorade…actually didn’t run out…didn’t have any when I started!!, just no stores to stop at on the new route I took today. Finally found a store at mile 32…flatted a Tufo tubular at mile 33…limped home on a spare…still better then a swim workout!!
